Solid performer, but transformer is a fire hazard

Great, solid product. Son uses it to add audio using the Neewer mic with boom arm kit. We were very pleased with the set. Beware of the transformer that came with the Phantom Power supply. It almost caused a fire. The 17.3v transformer was plugged in, but not connected to anything. Luckily we were home, and the transformer had heated up so much that it melted out of the plastic housing. It was hot enough to cause burns to the skin while pulling the it out from the wall socket. Please be aware of this hazard, and power down when not in use. Otherwise, we've been very happy with the performance of this product. We'll contact Neewer separately and inform them of this hazard so they can carefully review the transformer supplier.

Perfect power supply for microphone, comes with XLR cord

I recently bought a microphone for my iMac for making videos for my website and didn't realize that the microphone needed its own power supply. After a bit of research I found this power supply and decided to try it and I am glad I did.

The Neewer 1 Channel 48V phantom power supply is easy to hookup to your microphone. I tested it out and have no feedback or other issues with any of it. One tip, you may already know this, is to get your microphone to work you have to remember to go into your settings on your computer and turn on the microphone instead of using the computer's microphone, but that's about all there is to it.

Along with this power supply I got the Excelvan BM-800 microphone and love it (I have a review on it and you can see more tips in that review), and the Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter ($6.00), and the Neewer Adjustable Suspension Boom arm. That's all I have needed for it to work with my iMac. I wasn't sure if I needed the soundcard but I did so I am glad for the $6 I got it. If you have a Mac you may need it as you may also have one input / output line for audio and this external soundcard will help so your can connect your microphone. Once connected go to Settings, Sound and look for USB Sound Card and click on that to make the microphone the default instead of the builtin microphone.

*Tip: Ignore other reviews that say to get the XLR male to female microphone cord as it's included with this power supply.

I've filmed some youtube videos with it now and i've gotta say you definitely need this with the neewer mic.
Also, the sketchy looking power supply hasn't been an issue either.
I saw the review where it melted so i've monitored it with a surface thermometer.
The supply shouldn't go above 87 F. If it hits 95 i'd unplug it. And in case your still worried about it, there specs are 18 Volts AC @ 500mA.

Also the cable it came with is pretty good quality for the price. Metal ends. The table to remove the cable from the input is also made of metal, so it's not going to break.

Amp was wrapped in anti-static bag and placed inside of a box, along with its power cord. Amp was packaged secure enough and then the box was placed inside of a shipping box, along with another product. Amp was delivered on time as promised, very happy with packaging and shipping/delivery

I purchased a studio mic before purchasing this amp, so I had to wait to test both the mic and the amp. Hooking up the amp to the mic was simple enough, just followed the directions. This phantom amp supplies the power for the mic, so without it, the mic WILL NOT work. I found the instructions to be clear enough to follow and the amp appears to be well constructed. On the front of the amp is an LED that lights up when the amp is powered on, across from the power switch to turn it on. The appearance of the amp is nice and it appears to be sturdy. The connections are all in the back of the amp and the plugs/jacks are marked (one side connects to pc sound card and the other connects to the mic itself). I am very happy with this purchase so far, after more usage, I will post an update.

My shotgun microphone is rated for and requires 48v phantom power, but has option of AA battery too. With the AA battery installed, i can talk at regular volume with the microphone 2 feet away and still sound loud to the other party. Using this phantom power unit, however, i have to get with 2 inches and scream into this to get anything to come out the other end. As a test, I turned off the unit and screaming into this had no effect, so I know it's producing "some" power, but not the 48v. AA batteries are only 1.5 volts and this cannot produce anywhere near the power of a AA battery.

Yes it does turn on and the blue light shines and my microphone's manual says it runs on 48v. My microphone volume is also at max. All settings were the same. Unfortunately, I didn't begin using this until months after I bought it, or I would have returned it.

I bought this as a gift after reading numerous reviews on Amazon. This is a very popular product and lower on the price range for Mics.

This mic was purchased primarily for a teen to record and sing songs and covers. The recordings come out way better than any built in mics.

It comes in several pieces and requires assembly. Steps are provided in a booklet. It requires additional power from the included power adapter.

I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for an affordable mic to improve sound quality of their recordings.

This device works great at WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO. All this is - I repeat, ALL this is, is a Phantom Power Supply. THAT IS IT. People saying "so much hiss" or "so much noise" are trying to simply use it as an audio interface to connect it to their PC directly, when what this is MEANT for is to power an XLR mic with 48v of phantom power through the IN port, and then connect to an ACTUAL interface through the OUT port. IT IS NOT AN INTERFACE ITSELF. Sure it can *kind of* function that way - but you WILL end up with noise. That's kind of what you get when running a mic directly from a power source. Electrical noise. Duh.

My use of this is - I found a Beringer Q502USB for super cheap to use an AudioTechnicia AT2020 XLR mic. Problem is, the Q502USB only outputs 15v phantom power. This would, in theory, STILL work, but at degraded audio quality. I bought this to provide the full power to the mic (while also turning off the phantom power on the q502usb), and it works a treat.

If you have a condenser microphones then you need this product. I bought ZINGYOU BM800 Condenser Microphone Kit from wish.com. Could not get it to work until i read online that it needed a Phantom Power Supply.
After searching online i cam across this brand. All i can say it's worth the price i payed for it. Once i got it setup and powered on my mic worked amazingly. Well made product.

Does not make a difference when connected to PC with XLR to 3.5mm

I recorded myself twice, one with NW800 directly plugged into the PC and one using XLR-XLR to the power supply, then XLR to 3.5mm into the motherboard. Both of them sounded exactly the same. I believe this is because phantom power cannot be transmitted through 3.5mm jack. The diagram is extremely misleading, showing the power supply connected to a laptop with XLR-3.5mm. I cannot comment on whether it actually works when connected to a professional audio interface via XLR-XLR since I do not have one and do not want one.

I bought this to go with the BM-800 condenser mic for our son. This power supply comes with a power cord and the XLR male-female cable to use with the microphone set. Nothing fancy but it does what it's supposed to do. I am glad I bought this at the same time when I bought the BM-800. Without the phantom power supply he could barely hear the sound but once it's plugged it, day and night difference.

I bought this for my Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic, which I was plugging into a LyxPro SPA-8 100W active PA speaker. The speaker doesn’t supply phantom power, so without this little unit my microphone essentially didn’t work. By plugging this power supply “in between” the mic and speaker, everything works perfectly.

Some buyers / readers seem confused that this power supply provides some sort of amplification, but it doesn’t. It simply provides phantom power, so your condenser microphone can work. Go read / watch a YouTube video on the difference between condenser mic’s and dynamic mics, if needed. Michael Pitluck has a perfect explainer video.

Back to the review, Neewer offered me great customer service when my first unit arrived faulty. There is a note inside the box that suggests to contact them with any problems. My power supply added a loud buzz to the line. Upon proving the problem by emailing them a short video, they sent me a replacement at no charge, which worked perfectly with no buzz. Other reviews talk about noise when connecting this to a mic going into a computer and I don’t know if that’s the same thing. My unit was truly faulty.

If you have a condenser microphone that doesn’t work because the destination you’re plugging it into doesn’t provide 48W phantom power, then this product is for you.
