I charged my almost dead battery overnight. I checked it at plug in, about 30 minutes later, and the next morning. The battery and charger never felt warm, which would have alarmed me. I haven't tested it any more than that, but do have some comparison weights and photos.
Weights are 26g for the charger. 44g for charger and stock cable, you could probably get a shorter one but I'm not that dedicated. LpE6 battery is 75g, Canon US charger with fold-out prongs is a whopping 126g. That's a savings of nearly 3 oz which is enough for people to pay lots of money in titanium backpacking gear. Again, mostly appreciate that I can now charge it from an international USB wall adapter OR a USB battery pack, although probably very slowly. Not an issue for me!
4 stars because I perceive the inexpensive cost as low product quality. Will repost a review after another month long international trip out of a backpack. Thanks for reading!
UPDATE: Trip went awesome, charged the battery only once from an Anker battery pack. I was able to use this charger in town from a wall USB charger for topping off the battery. No problems and it is permanently going into my DSLR travel bag for the next time I forget to charge but I'm already driving/flying somewhere.
I bought this with my own damn money. All $7.50. And no one is encouraging me to do this review, besides my own desire to share with people trying to take awesome photos and do ultralight backpacking trips.
Don't let the low price fool you, it is good and does it's job.
Reason I went with this is so I can carry it around anywhere, I can get power via battery pack, car USB charger, computer... anywhere.
It's compact and lightweight with an illuminated blue screen with bars that move from left to right to indicate charging. Charges maybe 15% slower than the original but not really a problem for me.
That said I am so excited to get rid of my ridiculously heavy charged that came with my canon eos 70d! This little charger is so much lighter and more compact, and with the usb charger you can bring it anywhere in the world and know that youll be able to charge it!
I backpack a lot with my camera, and weight is a huge concern. I also need to be able to charge my camera while out and about so i have to carry a charger. I carry one wall plug with two spots for usb ports, and with that i can now charge my phone and camera easily in one place.
Another added benefit is that i can now charge my camera battery from my portable solar panel that has a usb port as an output. Ill definitely use this capability on my next bike tour, as finding a place to charge can be difficult in 3rd world countries, and biking all day in the sun is plenty of time to charge a battery.
I bought this with my own money and was NOT compensated for my review.
