I had a really nice old 35mm lens that through its life had incurred a small dent in the filter thread. I purchased this unit and within 5 minutes of me un boxing it I had corrected the problem & I was able to screw filters on to the lens. I does not come with any instructions but is quite intuitive on how to use it. I placed a piece of Saran wrap over the front element of the lens (just in case). I positioned the two larger jaws (for the want of a better word) one against the "ding" I made sure that the threads on the jaw were engaged with the thread on the lens turned the handle a few times until appeared as if the "dent" was pushed out. I slackened off the handle and rotated the unit ... just to make sure the threads were uniform. Removed the tool and I then was able to screw various filters on to the lens with no problems. It isn't a tool you are going to need every day BUT when you need it you really need it... The tool is really well made and solid.
This thing is ok. Its not really worth it, a solid chopstick/dowel and a hammer on a block of wood would have probably been better. I could tell it was also flexing out the other side of the lens ring,
The item itself arrived sooner than I expected (but still a longer wait than typical) as I believe it is shipped from overseas. Overall it's a heavy, metal item, bigger than it appears in the photos. Finish on the tool is acceptable, but not fine by any standards.
I fixed 3 lens filter threads fairly easily. I started on an inexpensive ($5 flea market) lens, and after fixing another, felt confident enough to take a ding out of an expensive Nikkor. It did a better job than I expected . . . two of the lenses were totally mangled, after some time with the tool I was able to get filters on them. Damage is still quite visible, but with some coaxing, can not get a filter on. My third lens had a single ding that prevented filters being added, after a few minutes with the tool (going slowly) there is still some visible damage, but filters screw on quite well.
Downside - after 3 repairs over the span of a couple of days, it began seizing up. Became completely impossible to turn, grinding, etc. Required way more force than necessary. I contacted the company via email and they did respond within a day. They weren't especially helpful, but would have taken a return. In the end it wasn't worth returning.
As far as I can tell, the mechanism expands in warm temperatures and seized up on me. If you experience this, I would recommend moving to a cooler place to do the repair or maybe throwing it in the fridge for a bit. Don't use excessive force.
Long story short, I'd be hesitant to buy again, especially with the heat issue.
Great for fixing dented filter rings in lenses with 52mm or bigger rings. Tricky to fix 49mm filter rings-the big size won't fit, the smaller size doesn't spread the pressure out enough and tends to distort the opposite side. Not sure where the cutoff is, I don't have anything to try it between those sizes.

And it works. My expensive 70 - 135 lens with the ding is now able to accept the polarizing filter once again. I didn't check but I doubt the tool is much more expensive than a trip to the camera repair place - if you can find one that does this kind of work. I could but it was a long drive. Hopefully I'll never have to use it again. But if I do, it's in my drawer.
Extremely well made, this lens filter ring repair tool is very heavy gauge, secure, and easy to use. Just ensre you've properly aligned the tool to the threads and be GENTLE. I have a nice looking older Nikkor w/bent filter threads and this tool helped me fix it in under five minutes.
