With that said, the umbrella hole and threaded peg piece works good with my setup. Holds the tilt angle with a 37" umbrella. I'll give it 3 stars because it probably works as intended until you start moving it around the studio and *maybe* your speedlight falls out.
I will probably keep these as spares but will be looking for a more secure solution.
Update July 5, 2016
You can unscrew the original mount and screw on an AS-19 or AS-21 or similar base that is 1/4" threaded. This allows the speedlight to securely lock into place. I feel better about it so I'll bump it to 4 stars. Consider the total cost and lead time of getting two items versus a different product for umbrella use.
These are great for anyone using an off-camera flash as they will fit onto a light stand or a tripod. Well worth the price!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06VTFB8KH/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0 this one is much higher quality and the same price.
Over all I am happy with the product! i needed it in a pinch and i got something that worked for most of the tasks i needed it to!
If you are inside a soft box, the umbrella hole will not position your speed list in a unbrella correctly. The speed light will always be high because there is no separate adjustment for the umbrella hole.

My only real complaint (not worth knocking a star off) is this model has a "toothed" connection in the middle vs a smooth friction model, meaning you can only articulate it in ~15° increments, hasn't affected my shooting at all, but might bother someone that has to have something just a certain way.
Top piece is widely adjustable and can easily accommodate a standard speedlight or something larger or smaller in size.
