MxL delivered more low range, had more presence and was crisper than the lav, but these little cheap things are still an improvement over the mic in the 600D. Tested later against the mic in a Canon Vixia HF R20, and, while the R20's inbuilt is much cleaner than the 600D's the lav still edged it out, in my opinion. Direct input into the either camera resulted in something of a mixed bag. Solid improvement over the inbuilts but, against a dedicated recorder, the camera's electronics are noticably a step down, even from the lowly H1. Plus the cord isn't really long enough for direct input to be practical.
Bottom line, any dedicated mic with recorder will almost always be better than the mics in most low to midrange cameras, and even getting the mic away from the camera helps a lot. So those on a shoestring budget wanting to do talking head style videos should take notice of these little wonders.
That is the reason why it does not work on smart phones, computers etc. guess its an advert problem.
It will work on audio recording devices that supports plug-in power (3-5V).
It goes well with the Movo WS10n furry wind screen for Lavs.
Its pretty darn good for 2 buck a piece, the furry windscreen costs more than the microphone!
Buy these if you are on a budget, to keep as spares, or going to record audio knowing that it will get damaged from rain, water etc.
I own a few mics for amateur recordings, including three USB mics that I've used for voice-over and some interviews.
Overall I'd say these lapel mics are obviously not excellent when compared to the higher level mics I own, but at this price point they are absolutely unbeatable and still do a very good job regardless of price.
I now store two of the mics with my SLR camera along with a Y splitter cable to do interviews, and use the third one clipped to my headphone cable when gaming. As I said, it won't give as full of a sound as some of my expensive USB mics, but since I can attach it to the headphone cable I can make sure it doesn't pick up the noise from my mechanical keyboard and I also don't need to use the whole arm stand for the USB mic, making this a very minimal setup that works great for everyday use and even some casting.
If you're not sure about these, just take your chances! Where else are you going to find 3 mics for $6?
These are omnidirectional, so they do pick up some background noise. They are also pretty hot, so you'll need to turn your gain down. Once I had them dialed in, all three worked great. The clip attaches to the body of the microphone, and holds tightly. There is a little contact noise, as is expected from a lavalier/clip microphone, but the light weight makes it minimal.
What is not so great? Well, the bottom end rolls off around 100hz, but depending on use, that might be a good thing. The cord doesn't feel very durable, and they are pretty sensitive to background noises and speech. Otherwise they are a great buy!
I plan to use these for mostly interviews, and getting audio that I wouldn't be able to get with my Rode mic mounted on my DSLR.
