MxL delivered more low range, had more presence and was crisper than the lav, but these little cheap things are still an improvement over the mic in the 600D. Tested later against the mic in a Canon Vixia HF R20, and, while the R20's inbuilt is much cleaner than the 600D's the lav still edged it out, in my opinion. Direct input into the either camera resulted in something of a mixed bag. Solid improvement over the inbuilts but, against a dedicated recorder, the camera's electronics are noticably a step down, even from the lowly H1. Plus the cord isn't really long enough for direct input to be practical.
Bottom line, any dedicated mic with recorder will almost always be better than the mics in most low to midrange cameras, and even getting the mic away from the camera helps a lot. So those on a shoestring budget wanting to do talking head style videos should take notice of these little wonders.
That is the reason why it does not work on smart phones, computers etc. guess its an advert problem.
It will work on audio recording devices that supports plug-in power (3-5V).
It goes well with the Movo WS10n furry wind screen for Lavs.
Its pretty darn good for 2 buck a piece, the furry windscreen costs more than the microphone!
Buy these if you are on a budget, to keep as spares, or going to record audio knowing that it will get damaged from rain, water etc.
These are omnidirectional, so they do pick up some background noise. They are also pretty hot, so you'll need to turn your gain down. Once I had them dialed in, all three worked great. The clip attaches to the body of the microphone, and holds tightly. There is a little contact noise, as is expected from a lavalier/clip microphone, but the light weight makes it minimal.
What is not so great? Well, the bottom end rolls off around 100hz, but depending on use, that might be a good thing. The cord doesn't feel very durable, and they are pretty sensitive to background noises and speech. Otherwise they are a great buy!
WHAT'S INSIDE THE BOX: 3 Neewer Lavalier Microphones.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: At first sight I was impressed with how professional this mic looked, considering it's unit price being close to a dollar. But I immediately noticed the long cord.
BUILD QUALITY: This has an all-plastic build with a small windscreen, the build quality is not the greatest but for it's price I really can't complain. Although people have been saying to handle them with large amounts of care or else they might break, I can agree with that because one of my mics came broke!
FUNCTIONALITY: These things work pretty good for what they are. Their cord is very short which makes recording problematic if you're using a computer or laptop (SIDENOTE: These will NOT work with ports that function both as a mic port as well an audio port like the ones on phones and some laptops, the only products that will work with those are ones with three rings around the jack, this one only has two. So for it to work you have to have a dedicated mic slot on your device.) So I would recommend using this with a pocket recorder like the Zoom H1. I was astonished by the sound quality of this product, I was not expecting what is was capable of from something with such a low price. I actually preferred this devices audio to my $80 Logitech g430's headset's mic.
PROBLEMS: My main gripe with this product is the fact that I payed for three and only two worked! I wasn't that mad however, because of the minimal price I payed along with the fact that I still had functioning ones. Along with that is the problem of the short cord, the mic's audio drop off is also VERY much apparent, this is to be expected from a lavalier mic but even then it was a bit much. Even when it was clipped onto my shirt, it still sounded too quiet.
FINAL THOUGHTS; Overall, I would recommend this product. It's not the best mic obviously, but it would function as a great backup mic and can easily be replaced if broken because of the extremely low price.
