This step bit is a fraction of the price of what you will pay in the big box store. My worry was that it would not work as well.

If you are a home brewer and you are looking for something to drill through kegs with for installing various accessories, this bit is it. I have made two 7/8" holes in stainless steel kegs with it so far with ease, and no relative sign of wear. Just use some cutting oil to cool the bit and the stainless. Also, use an 1/8" drill bit to make a starter hole.

This bit made 7/8'' holes in two stainless steel fryer pots (homebrewing kettles). The thickest pot wall (1mm / 18 gauge) was challenging to do, but it worked. The bit's only downside is the steps are somewhat difficult to correlate with the markings (stop your drilling early, "one step too soon").

Equipment:
-- The titanium bit
-- Small bit for pilot hole (around 1/16'')
-- Hand drill (corded)
-- 3 in 1 oil
-- Safety goggles (also suggest a mask)

Procedure was
1) mark 7/8'' step with sharpie for better visibility
2) hole punch with a couple hammer whacks
3) drill small pilot hole (maybe 1/16'')
4) drill with titanium bit and frequent oil re-apply
5) stop about one step "too soon" and re-assess

Summary:
Positive: I gave this bit a tough job and it worked.
Limitations: Step markings could be better, and 1mm steel did grab this bit several times.

1. It cut through my stainless steel sink very quickly using my cordless drill (Ridgid ZRR86006 18V Cordless 1/2-in Compact Lithium-Ion Drill with 2 Batteries).

2. It deburred the hole perfectly. When I got to the desired diameter, 1 inch, I stopped pushing the drill and the hole cleaned up with no sharp edges. I then came in from the bottom of the sink and cleaned up that side of the hole. This deburring feature is significant because you can easily spend a LOT of time cleaning a hole after drilling it. But this bit did it all perfectly.

3. Cutting Oil: Since I was cutting a hole in my kitchen sink, I used canola oil, just the cheapest grocery store-brand, a tablespoon or less. It seemed to work beautifully. (My friend recommended extra virgin olive oil with a hint of garlic.)

There is another model, Neiko Titanium Step Drill Bit - 1/4" to 1-3/8" in 1/8" Increments, 10 Steps, with a larger span (up to 1-3/8") that LOOKS like it would work identically. However, it goes up in 1/8" increments, and from the reviews for that model, it appears it does not deburr very well (or at all). (And as I said before, deburring was an important time-saver for me.)

Never used a step bit before and I was a bit leery about how it would work. I was able to easily drill a 1 1/8 hole in the metal grille of a car I was working on. I used a cordless drill and it was no problem. I just took it slow, used plenty of oil, and didn't let the bit get too hot. It worked well. Great price for the bit at Amazon, too.

I bought this to widen a turn signal hole on an old Jeep to put a better fixture in for LED lights. I expanded it from 1/2" to 3/4" very quickly. End result had some burrs but that's because I couldn't get to both sides. I smoothed those out with a round file. This was the reason I bought it and it did the job perfectly. It was easy to judge hole size too. No idea on longevity and may not use it again for a while but I am happy with the purchase.
