High Speed Steel Versatility
Our step drill bits are constructed from traditional HSS combined with a titanium coating to make them even more durable. This also proves the capability and durability of the drill to last through multiple drillings on surfaces such as: plastic, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, and so much more.
Unique 2 Flute Design
Two flute design also lets the material particles escape easily for a much more clean drilling operation. With each step, you can feel the drill bit stop so you never drill bigger than you need to.
- 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1", 1-1/8", 1-1/4", 1-3/8"
The tri-flatted shank is a great universal fit that will give you confidence while you work knowing that your drill bit is securely in place.
Easily identify which size you need with the contrasted, laser engraved sizes inside the step drill bit flute.
Increased Cutting Speed
The split point tip is at 135 degrees which allows you to cut faster throughout multiple uses. This also ensures that you get sharp cutting on a wide variety of materials.

Now, I do not use this bit every day. I do not work with this bit. Which, I assume, if you’re needing a unibit for work, you’re not looking at a $10 one on Amazon. But if you’re like me, and just *might* need to drill large holes in sheet metal or plastic from time to time, this bit should work fine for a good while, as long as you don’t abuse it.

When the grommets and drill bit arrived, I was pleased and excited. I cleaned up the outside of the smoker where I was going to drill and then put some painters tape over the designated spot to try and prevent the enamel from chipping. I then started to drill. The tape seemed like a good idea at the time, but the tape quickly peeled and got stuck in the drill bit. I eventually pulled the tape off completely about 1/3 of the way through for drilling. I needed to make a hole that is 1 and 1/4" in diameter, which was the second to last step on the bit. I was trying not to go too fast 'cause I was worried I would get overzealous and drill the hole too big and then I'd be Really Mad 'cause I would have messed up my smoker. So I took my time and kept on going. When I got about 3/4 of the way through, the bit was not very smooth - not like my other name brand bit. I was getting even more scared that I was going to mess up my smoker and it was making me nervous using this drill bit. However, I had already come this far and there was no turning back at this point. So, I pressed on, but gently.
The biggest problem I was encountering was that the bit would catch on the opening it had created with each step that it passed through on the bit and I had to be careful not to cut my fingers, mess up my drill or mess up my smoker. It was frustrating because it wasn't a smooth drilling process at all. However, I eventually got to the stopping point and took the bit out. I could see a nasty burr of sharp metal hanging from the opening I had just created. So I put the drill on the other side of the hole and very gently drilled from that side just long enough to get rid of it and make the opening fairly smooth. Then, I was finally able to install the grommet and breathe a sigh of relief that I had not messed up my smoker.
I share all of this with you, the reader, to let you know that this product did work, BUT it was not very smooth and if the name brand bit I had was big enough, I would gladly have used it instead. Knowing what I know now, I would caution you on purchasing this and remember my experience with this drill bit. It Can do the job, but you have to be super careful with it, or you might mess something up that you can't fix later and that would be very, very bad, I would imagine. I give this product 3/5 stars, because it did do the job and the price was nice, but you get what you pay for and you definitely have to be careful with it.
ORIGINAL (5 STAR) REVIEW: I'm very happy with this bit. I'm only using it on thin HDPE and PET plastics, so I can't speak to its performance on metals. However, I have no complaints about it. I bought this because my other bits top out at 1" or less and I needed to hit 1.25" for a project. My other step bits are Milwaukee brand and, while they're of superb quality, cost considerably more than this one. For my light duty usage on plastics the performance is identical and it's hard to justify spending more than what these cost.
The only way I could get this to cut the 1.125" hole I needed was alternating from one side to the other, running the drill fast to heat up the plastic and push up a burr on the other side that would then shear off when I flipped the part.
I've got some step drills from Harbor Freight that cut WAY better than this. This might be okay for thin metals, but it's a total failure for plastics.

First of all, was a complete different brand than what was advertised.
Second of all, it is absolute junk.
I used it to enlarge a hole in some mild steel.
It didn't even cut, it didn't open up the hole by one step. Just spinning without biting in, basically like a dull bit.
I would at least not have been so hard if it was just a cheap bit that only worked for a few holes, but the only thing this worked at was getting the metal hot. Junk
