About this item
- TACHOMETER VS. SPEEDOMETER: While a digital speedometer will read the current speed of a vehicle, this automotive tachometer is used for measuring the rpm of a revolving shaft, as with the driveshaft of an automobile.
- ACCURATE RPM METER: This handheld tachometer is highly accurate and noncontact. With high-speed laser-aim operation and instant readings from 2.5 to 99,999 rpm, this radar gun gives you accurate rotational speed readings from a distance.
- AUTOMOTIVE TACHOMETER GAUGE: This big- or small-engine tachometer measures velocity in revolutions per minute. The information is displayed on a large and easy-to-read LCD screen.
- TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: This pocket radar device is accurate to +/- 0.05% and is capable of measuring at a distance from 2" to 20". It measures revolutions over a 1-second sampling time and stores them as the last, minimum, or maximum reading.
- COMPACT DIGITAL COUNTER: The compact, lightweight design of this photo tachometer makes it easy to get speed readings for diagnostic and measurement purposes. This device operates on 9v battery (included).

"...Easy to use." Read more
"...The onboard laser makes that easy. It's a bit picky about the angle, too. That may be more a function of the lighter surface of the spindle...." Read more
Customers appreciate the value of the gauge. They mention it's cheap and works well.
"...This is a great load tester for a great price, just don’t test multiple batteries back to back to back, it will ruin it...." Read more
"...I used electrical tape for that. It is worth the price." Read more
"...long as the tester gets very hot and will drain your battery A very fair price" Read more
"This is a killer value for the money, BUT it has a pretty glaring design flaw IMHO...." Read more
Customers like the battery testing of the product. They say it's a great classic battery tester, simple to use and read, and a helpful tool to diagnose battery and charging issues. Some mention it's used for testing golf cart batteries and that it tests under load.

Customers have mixed opinions about the build quality of the electromechanical gauge. Some mention it's well-made, reliable, and stable. Others say it's cheaply constructed and would not hold up to much abuse.
"Works well with no issues... Seems to be a good quality product. I do recommend this unit!" Read more
"...It did this perfectly although the general feeling is a bit "plastic," but that didn't seem to effect performance any and I've used it quite a bit..." Read more

"Others gave 1 star for a dead battery. Yeah, the battery was dead. Replaced with a new battery and it worked fine. Big deal." Read more
"...The batteries were un-usable! It appears that package had been setting on your shelf for a long time!..." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the readability of the gauge. They mention it can't provide a reading the first time they tried to use it, the tachometer doesn't read at all, and it's not easy to read accurately. They also say the instructions are sparse and poorly translated.

"...As soon as you let go of the button it stops recording the RPM. 2. It's rather slow to refresh. 3...." Read more
"...Be warned that this tachometer will simply not give a reading when the batteries are low; the display and laser will still turn on." Read more
"...It actually caused the tachometer not to read at all, even though the display worked ok...." Read more

Very accurate, measured 93 amps out of 100

I used a DC amperage clamp meter to measure how many amps this tester actually draws. It starts at about 95 and slowly drops to about 90 as the resistance increases when the resister in the tester starts heating up. If I used a fresh battery that was 12.8 volts I’m sure it would read 100 amps, but the battery I used was maybe 12.5 volts.
This is a great load tester for a great price, just don’t test multiple batteries back to back to back, it will ruin it. Let it cool down for 10-15 minutes between each test.

Remove the battery cover. There are two small black screws recessed in holes that need to be removed; use a skinny Phillips head screwdriver to remove them. At the opposite end there are two more screws also recessed. When those are out remove the top cover. The two push buttons may fall off their switches but don't worry, just set them aside. On the top of the circuit board near the lens you will see a clear photodiode; mine was bent at a severe angle. If necessary use your fingers to bend it so it is pointing straight forward toward the lens- make sure the photodiode does not bend down toward the circuit board because the light emitter is mounted on the underside of the board and you don't want to block the light. The lens is biconvex so it doesn't matter which side is which; it sits loosely inside a plastic ring. There is a larger plastic spacer that holds the lens firmly within its plastic ring- they don't snap together tightly but when you have them positioned correctly they will stay together well enough to place them together as a unit in the tachometer. The lens end of the assembly goes toward the photodiode. There is a rim on the spacer that fits in a groove at the very front of the tachometer and the rim has an oval shape so the assembly needs to be rotated so that it nestles down in the groove. Once the assembly is in place you can close the tachometer, but make sure the switch buttons are seated on top of the two switches (the Test and Memory switches) and angled at a 45 degree angle so they'll match up to the holes in the tachometer cover. Then you can press the cover in place over the switches and put the four screws back.
It sounds awfully complicated but it really only took five minutes to fix and then it worked perfectly. I also can verify its accuracy because I was using a synchronous motor controlled by a pulse generator that outputs exactly 2500 rpm and that is what I got from the tachometer. My only quibble is that the device displayed 0 rpm when it actually wasn't getting a signal; I would prefer that it have an indicator of no signal.
