One thing to take note of, this item does not have a switch. It will remain powered on for the entire time it is plugged in. To shut off and begin its cooldown, unplug it from wall. This soldering iron stays hot for a long time even after pulled out so be very careful with handling.
I hope this review was helpful!
This kit is actually very nice on a budget. The supplied chisel tip was perfect for resoldering a tiny wire I accidentally pulled out while I had my Wii disassembled for cleaning, and the handle stayed cool the entire time. The tip heated up in about 4 minutes and stayed hot without being excessively hot. The stand is basic, but sturdy. This model did not come with the clamp.
My only gripes are the solder helper tool and the solder itself. The helper is straight (not like the one in the seller's photo), and I really could've used a bent one with the cramped space I was working in. The solder is absolute junk. The wire is too thick, and you'd think the kit would be supplied with a thinner strand considering it advertizes itself as an electronics solder kit. Also, I had a very difficult time trying to get it to adhere, and even the lightest brush of the iron made it ball up into a huge glob. Luckily, I had some good stuff in the toolbox.
All in all, the iron is fantastic for the price, and the tips are perfect for basic board reworks. Just make sure you have some good solder handy.
I put missing in quotes because it obviously does not have a desoldering bulb in the product description or pictures.
I bought this kit because I'm a novice and I had a small soldering project and didn't want to spend too much money on it - if the project failed (i.e. if I was bad at learning to solder) then I would trash the project and wouldn't be out too much money with this kit.
However, being a novice I didn't know that a desoldering bulb is a good item to have as part of your basic kit. I tried a bunch of ways to desolder a wire on a circuit board to replace the wire, but it did not work. I even rummaged around my house for an infant nose clearing bulb (kinda looks like a desoldering bulb) but I guess I threw it out when my kids learned to pick their noses.
In the end I didn't desolder the wire from the board and instead cut the wire and spliced in the new wire with solder and electrical tape.
So the star off is because the manufacturer should save novices from themselves and include a bulb in the kit.
The first dissapotment is that this soldering iron only comes with one tip. Which wouldn't be that much of a problem since I have replacements for a 30w soldering iron BUT this specific soldering iron has a thread at the end of it's tip which you can not replace unless you have an exact match. I have couple replacements which are a pop in which you secure with a screw on the side of the soldering iron head which I can not do that because of the thread.
Second problem is the weak material which the tip is made out of. It started bending under a little bit of pressure which is normal user light soldering. This is the first time I see a soldering iron bend while being used. My other ones get much more hotter and nothing ever like that happened. I'm actually annoyed and scared using this iron because it might fall apart even more. It was on for maybe 40 minutes in which 10 minutes of thst was being used for soldering and the rest it was on a stand (my own stand). The one that came with it might as well be made out of paper.
I don't really care for the accessories which come with this product. I would rather pay the same money for the soldering iron on its own if it was just a better quality one.
I would not recommend this to any of my airsoft friends or anyone who wants to do some light modifications and satify their soldering needs.
