This charger absolutely met and exceeded my expectations of a solar charging battery. It kept our 2 iPhones charged for 4 full days on the coast while taking pictures and videos that will last a lifetime.
***You need to remember that the solar charging aspect is is purely for emergencies and should not be relied on as your sole source of power; but it works incredibly well to add enough juice to stretch the 12000mAh battery as long as to can.
I think this is a fantastic product and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
The light on it is quite small and weak so I would not rely on using it, only because it will drain your battery that much faster.
If you're in the search for an external battery this one is what you need, solar panels or not, it works great. The dual USB ports make it easy to charge both devices simultaneously.
JUST DO IT!!!
As a charger, it works well. I was able to charge up my iPad from 70 to 100% in just a few hours while charging my Fire 2015 tablet at the same time. A few people have commented online that the 2.1 amp USB output does not actually put out that amount of amperage and that the unit only puts out 1 amp through both USB plugs. I have also read in the reviews on Amazon that the battery max output life of the pack is closer 10,000 mah once the battery has fully discharged. While I cannot verify this, it is something to take into consideration when you can purchase 10,000 mah battery packs online for $10-15. You may want to do additional research on this product before you buy the Nekteck pack.
I really should have read the specifications closer as I was looking forward to using this battery pack as an economical way to charge my work issued iPad and various gadgets but in the end, the solar capability is a letdown. The instruction manual on this battery pack does say, however, that the solar charging ability should only be used in times of emergency and that you should not solar charge if the pack is at a 75% or greater. Reading further into the chemical makeup of lithium ion polymer batteries I learned that they don't charge well below freezing temperatures and should not be exposed to temperatures higher than 110 degrees F. So, if you are thinking about leaving this pack to charge out in your vehicle and you live in a climate with temperature extremes like I do in Nebraska, you may with to stick with an indoor charge.
Would I purchase this product again...maybe, knowing that I can at least charge one bar on the battery meter if I were outdoors it makes it a viable emergency item for hiking or camping but do not trust having a charge enough to juice up your cell phone or iPad on solar power alone. I have a cheap 12,000 mah battery pack that I purchased about a year ago (Aukey brand, I thinking) and it functions just as well as my newer Nekteck juice pack so while the Nekteck pack not be a more economical purchase in the end, the ruggedized finish is very well done and the built in flashlight works well. Again, I can't downrate the product as a charger and it works well but the solar charging function is a letdown.
