Nelke & The Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of The New World
Atelier 20th Anniversary Title An Atelier town built together with legendary alchemists. This title aims to combine the “slice-of-life” atmosphere of living in a town and collaborating with various characters and the exaltation that comes from successfully governing a town and expanding your world. This title is designed to represent a new milestone in the evolution of the “Atelier” series, marking their 20th anniversary, and its theme is: Town-management Simulation x RPG. We aim to provide our fans with an entirely new "Atelier" experience.
Product description
Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World puts players in the shoes of Nelke Von Lestamm, a young noblewoman who has always been fascinated by the ancient legend of the Sage of Granzweit; a tale of the Granzweit Tree which is said to bestow great power upon those whom discover it. As she grew up and learned her skills were not in alchemy, she studied hard to become a government official and help those around her. The day Nelke is set to graduate the academy, however, her life changes forever as she hears a rumor that the tree can be found within her father's lands near the small village of Westwald. Her father grants her permission to search for it on one condition - that she becomes governor of the area and develops Westwald into a prosperous city.

The art is consistent and looks nice.
The same can be said of the music and sound effects.
The game play isn't like the other Atelier games. The staring lady Nelke, is a young noble woman who is assigned to build and govern a town. She isn't an Alchemist at all.
Loads of fan favorite characters like Pamala, Hagel Sophie and Logy return!
As far as I can tell, all of the Japanese VAs have returned.
The frame rate runs smoothly in handheld mode.
OH yeah FREE DLC for early adopters! Who doesn't like freebies?
The meh..
The story so far isn't the most gripping tale I've seen in a video game but it's not bad.
The old and new characters are generally likeable.
Cons.
The reverse side of the cover is disappointing..
Nothing but ugly legal mumbo-jumbo and how to access the in game manual.
No English dub. This doesn't bother me personally but I can see why this may be off putting to others.
If you like the Atelier games and town management Sims then please try this game!
Now that I've gotten pretty far into the game, I'll add something to my review. While the game has some positive aspects, the gameplay can become quite tedious and repetitive from time to time. And while the game has plenty of depth in terms of building a good city, there isn't much beyond this and some of the character interactions to keep the player interested. It's not that the game is broken, just that it lacks a lot of features that really should be there to make a modern game enjoyable. A good example would be to be able to walk around and interact with the towns you build and their inhabitants, instead you get a 'view town' mode that just does a few camera pan-overs. The same goes for the way that items interact with the game, in most Atelier games items serve some real purpose but here the number of items that are required for certain buildings or that can be used while adventuring are quite limited (to my knowledge there is no way to upgrade characters weapons, armor, or other equipped items). Most items in this game are just used as ingredients to make other items, which are ultimately sold in shops for money. The main point here is that as a whole, the game ends up being only marginally entertaining. Decent story, interesting characters, but poor execution.

It's a menu based town building game, and has turn based combat elements as well. There is a lot to do, I've been playing non stop since it was delivered.
You have two stages per turn, city building stage, then a stage where you can interact with characters / research stuff / do a combat level run.
The game is actually difficult, I've had to restart over 4 times already.
