Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Esposito's cooking program is one of PBS's most successful shows, and her first cookbook from the show, Ciao Italia (Hearst, 1991), is still popular. The author has an engaging, down-to-earth style, with many nostalgic reminiscenses about growing up in an Italian American family. The recipes in this collection are predominantly for simple, regional dishes. The book is, in part, an attempt to preserve some of the traditional recipes that are no longer standards of everyday Italian cucina, from Zuppa Povera (Poor Soup) to Torta di Riso. It includes as well Esposito's versions of more unusual dishes old and new, along with a selection of recipes from her viewers and from professional chefs. For most collections.

Mary Ann Esposito's cookbooks are EXCELLENT. Nella Cucina, Ciao Italia and her Celebrations books all contain very authentic recipes that are easy to follow and delicious. Depending on what part of the country you live in, a few ingredients might be hard to find but overall the recipes are well adapted for a typical American kitchen. If you grow your own vegetables in the summer, there are some wonderful ideas on how to use them.

I've started cooking using this book and the recipes are varied and delicious. I just cooked the "Shrimp with Spicy Tomato Sauce" for guests last night and everyone loved it. It was a really simple but wonderful recipe. Most recipes in the book are not difficult and the explanations and layout of the ingredients are very clear and easy to follow. Ms. Esposito's writing style is entertaining and approachable. If you like cooking Italian food, I'd get this book, "Mangia Pasta", "Ciao Italia" and "Ciao Italia -- Bringing Italy Home" by the same author as I have done. I have been reading them every day since I got them. Great fun!

Mrs. Espisito's "More Italian Cooking from the host of Ciao Italia" is a beautifully written recipe book, which features some unusual as well as familiar Italian recipes, is very clearly written, and easy to comprehend/follow. Mrs. Espisito's comments at the begining of chapters, and at the openings of recipes make this book a delightful 'keeper'.

Seller, hawthorne_academic's, delivery was timely, and though the book was cited as "used" and was priced for under $5 U.S., it arrived in utterly pristine, like-new condition, (which probably could have passed for new condition). I am very pleased with Seller, hawthorne_academic's performance.

I lived in Naples,Italy for 4 years. Cooking down there is very different from Mary Ann Esposito's recipes. It's like Southern cooking in the USA is different than the North.
