About the Author

B. J. Myrick was born in 1932 in Atlanta, Kansas, to Scotch, Irish, and English parents. Her career as Art Educator spanned twenty-three years. Her first novel, "Out of Control," is a paranormal suspense, and she partnered up with Hazel Hart to produce two short story collections of dark fiction, "Edge of Nowhere" and "Dark Side of the Rainbow." Bonnie recently completed a historical novel, "Nelly of No Man's Land," and is currently working on "Assisted Living," a mystery. She has one daughter and lives in the Midwest. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

I grabbed this book because it was free at the time. Boy, am I glad I did so! This is your non-sugar-coated version of Little House On The Prarie type story. The characters are solid and so real, and the story line is so down to earth that you'll find it totally refreshing. Smartest thing Amazon did was to offer this book up for free for a time. Because of it, I intend to read more books written by B.J. Myrick, because she is just that good!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have family that currently live in Beaver county. My great grandparents homesteaded in the area. They lived in a dugout in the early years. This book brought back all the stories I heard as a child. Thanks for keeping this book true to the area and the lives that my ancestors lived. Good read for history buffs of our great state of Oklahoma.

Obviously I wasn't as taken with this book as most others. I've read so many books on this subject and found this to be average. There's a good lesson of forgiveness and redemption but I felt there was something missing in the telling of the story. It was not bad or exceptionally good, just average.

Bonnie Myrick's novel of pioneer living in the Oklahome Panhandle is a novel of love lost and found. Nelly is sick with a life-threatening infection, and her husband Will makes the decision to settle in the area known as No Mans Land. A healer lives in that area who may help Nelly get well.

The family makes the journey, encountering dangers along the way. The healer helps Nelly, and her condition gradually improves. Despite feeling better, Nelly wishes for a different life. The land mirrors her situation: bleak, hopless, and filled with hard work just to survive. What's worse, Will Duncan, Nelly's husband, likes to drink and is lured by the scent of the bar girls.

Fed up with Will, Nelly takes the kids and goes by train to San Franciso. There she lives the "good" life with her grandmama. She meets the man of her dreams. She goes with him to a secret spot ....

Nelly of No Man's Land is about the people and the grasslands of Oklahoma. It does not glamourize the pioneer living. It is about love and committment, the life we want and the life we are meant to have. Most of all, it is about forgiveness.

Nelly of No Man's Land so captured my interest that I read it in three days. I simply couldn't put it down. The story unfolds with adventure, risk, love and the agonizing trials of settling in the old west. I was so caught up in the family of characters that I began cheering as well as worrying and suffering right along with them. A delightful read. I hope to hear more from this author.
