I have spent a fair amount of time in the courtroom. I rarely read courtroom novels because I either get irritated with their procedure or their bias. I felt both of those frustrations at times while reading neon lawyer. For example, the book gives a biased view of prosecutors that plays into all the regular stereotypes: the ball-buster, the apathetic clock-puncher, and the soulless political mountaineer. Defense attorneys are portrayed quite differently, as even the sleazy boss and incompetent co-worker have hearts of gold. There were some technical irritants as well, like the blatant and repeated use of hearsay without objection (although I assume that was to increase drama without having to explain a complicated rule of evidence).

The fact remains, however, that I could not put this book down. I liked the main characters, except that there seemed to be a few unnecessary characters sprinkled throughout. A few characters were weak (Molly and June, I'm looking at you). Brigham's early mistakes and fears reminded me of similar experiences and made me want him to succeed. The chapters moved right along and didn't bog me down. The drama was good and I got the sense the writer knew his way around a case. All in all, despite a few minor irritants I would say that I was thoroughly entertained.

My son recently graduated from Law School and he is currently studying for the Bar Exam. As soon as his head clears, I will recommend The Neon Lawyer for some casual reading. Victor Methos has authored a short story that will give many readers a reason to stand up and cheer. Brigham Theodore Is Philadelphia's Rocky reset to Salt Lake City and the world of trial law. With a cheap suit and fortified by Ramen Noodles, Brigham inherits a murder case that would seem patently obvious. Amanda shot and killed her husband in front of witnesses because he killed their daughter in the most heinous way possible. Brigham's first case and trial is set forth herein with crisp language and a quickly moving plot which is helped by his nemesis Vince Dale, the supreme dick of Prosecutors.

Readers can guess the ending through this brief review but don't let that stop you from picking up an enjoyable read. Methos has found gold, and while he is not as detailed as Grisham, he makes up for it in the adversary ranks where his clean and simple storytelling don't interfere with the plot. Technicalities in court action can probably be picked but oh what a story. The Neon Lawyer is a pleasant surprise from Amazon that will keep on giving after the last page is read .

Totally interesting and the author was humble in his approach, while at the same time, learning about the court system.

I like a book with some truth to the story. I read a lot and this is my first book by Victor Methos. It was a good book. The beginning was a little slow but it changed after a while. The lawyer seemed to be slow also. I guess I'm just use to a faster pace with both and action also. But the story got interesting and I couldn't put the Kendal down. Like I said, I liked the story. Thank you so much for writing it. Though, I don't know where you get the time!!

It is good to feel the humanity in this story. This is the second book I have read by this author and again was touched by the integrity of his main characters. He speaks to those core values that raise us up to be better people. He gives his readers role models for doing the right thing while telling his story and evoking the emotions intended. It is easy to think this author is a poet at heart. His work is entertaining and thought provoking

I found this book palatable. It was a quick, easy read and somewhat entertaining.

Spoiler alert! What I couldn't understand were the subplots that either barely assisted the story, or seemed entirely out of place
and unnecessary. After Brigham's shoes were stolen I kept expecting the shoes to turn up as evidence planted by the evil prosecutor against Brigham in an effort to frame him for some hideous crime. Also, the death of Tommy seemed like a disconnect from the plot. There was no explanation for it and no real impact on the remaining characters. It just seemed to be thrown in to serve as a bridge to the ending, when Brigham and Molly formed their own firm.

Just okay.

There are certainly some unrealistic parts to this novel It is unlikely that a novice lawyer would be handling a murder trial alone as his second case, even working for a questionable storfront law firm like this one. And like most noverlists the author doesn't closely follow the rules of eveidence in the courtroom. But, once you accept that this is a novel not a documentary it is a fun, easy read. And the Author does realistically capture the uphill battle faced by the defense in a case where all the judge wants is to get the case done with and the prosecutor wants to make a name for himself. The condecending attitude towad defense counsel extends from the judge to court house security. It certainly ends like its the first in a series, and I'll be sure to read the next one.

Great writing, great characters, great storyline - any way you look at it, this legal story was great. This is the second book I have read by this author. And, I will not finish with Mr. Methos until I have read all of his books in this genre.

This is the first book by Mr. Methos that I've read and am now looking forward to ordering more. The plot and characters held my interest from page one.
