This gun - well, it's kind of fun. Not super effective, but, well, if you have kids or maybe a smaller yard, this is what you are looking for.
Big blue barrel. You can use the included balls or plain tennis balls - makes no difference. It comes with 4 balls, which is awesome. The gun works like this; stick ball onto the tip (you can also jam the barrel into the ground to pick up the ball that way), pull back the loading trigger thingy, aim, and fire. It goes maybe 50 feet? Maybe with a roll it makes it 50 feet. When you reload, you have to move the big orange thing on top to the tip of the barrel, then pull it back again after you insert a ball. Kind of weird, but ok. You get used to it.
It's kind of fun to use. I mean it doesn't go crazy far but I had fun whizzing the ball on the ground alongside the dog, or maybe straight up into the air. The first dog I used this with was scared by it. He didn't know what was going on and kept sniffing the gun and barking. It makes a loud click/bang noise when it launches, which also scared him. Once he got over it, it was fetch city. It's fun to use and works well - I used it all afternoon with other dogs too, and I have to say if makes volunteering even more fun - just one more thing you can play with while you're there. Also a good thing to use when visitors are there, because they can fire balls from it for the dogs. So, not super practical, but kinda fun.
