I took my time getting a Stryfe, and waited until they were extra-cheap. I should've got one sooner, because this blaster is the business. Reliable, fast-firing, very safe, mod-friendly, and with a HUGE variety of aftermarket 3D printed parts and electronic mods to turn this blaster into just about any kind of NERF weapons platform you'd want, so long as it used Elite darts and flywheels. It's a great blaster - inexpensive, attractive, great stock performance, compact form factor, magazine-fed, and it uses 4xAA batteries, which can be found just about anywhere.
The Stryfe is used by many NERFers as the basis for their loadout, and with this much performance in such a small package, it's easy to see why. However, my use of the Stryfe is a bit different. I use it as my sidearm/secondary. With such a good secondary, I can run whatever I want for my main blaster. I can experiment and try goofy stuff on the field, and the reliability, speed and range of the Stryfe will forgive my mistakes and tag opponents out. Since it's my secondary, I'm not constantly reloading or swapping the magazine. I use cylinder-style blasters for my main gun so I can pick up random darts off the ground and keep topping up my main gun, as opposed to wasting time topping up my sidearm while I should probably be taking cover. When I do run the Stryfe as a main, I like a Sledgefire as a secondary, because it's very likely to get the opponent in one shot, which is just what you need when you're ambushed while reloading.
I have only one complaint about the blaster, and I think it will be easy to fix. The magazine well is tight - which is to say, the magazine doesn't drop straight out when you hit the mag release button. This is good for some and will help ensure they don't lose their mags, but I am used to the way my other mag-fed blasters work. With those, I can reload one-handed because I never need to use my other hand to remove the magazine as it just falls out. I'm gonna try a bit of sanding and white lithium grease to see if I can impart this action to my Stryfe.
I think this blaster looks best with the Recon Mk.2 stock, the 10-, 15- or 22-round banana magazines, and the Long Range scope. Then it gets that "oversized cartoon pistol that really wants to grow up to be a sniper rifle" look.
I recommend the Stryfe!
I bought this over the weekend and finally had a chance to use it in anger on Sunday, and I must say it is awesome. There are a few draw backs, but overall its a really good gun.
Size and weight are good, very easy to maneuver and potentially dual wield
Rate of fire is incredible: the darts come out as fast as you pull the trigger
Add-ons: There are 2 accessory rails. I use mine with the Stampede foregrip on the accessory rail on the bottom, and use the raider stock. Not only does this increase the effectiveness of the weapon, it looks cool as hell. There is also a barrel attachment.
Looks: bad ass
Backward compatibility: Some modifications need to be done to use any other clips that are not the new elite straight ones. The 25 round drum from the Rampage works OK with this, but there are still issues. To redeem this issue, though, all you have to do is open it up and take out the clip sensor. Because its calibrated to the higher spring tension of the new clips, it has trouble registering a dart in the chamber when using the old clips, and will jam.
Noise: Not really too much of an issue, but when I'm trying to sneak up behind someone, revving the motor in this thing is a dead give away.
Conclusion: Its a better stampede with the size and weight of a recon
