Efficient, Powerful Technology

Nitron uses Xtra Long-Range (XLR) technology to propel a full-auto storm of discs towards targets to an extreme range. An acceleration trigger powers up the motor to hurl discs from a 20-disc magazine. Additional magazine storage holds extra discs for efficient reloading (supplementary magazine and discs sold separately).

Simple Assembly for Maximum Distance

A combination of battery power and disc technology makes this blaster as fun as it is effective. The discs slide easily into the magazine for loading and the magazine snaps firmly into place when inserted into active or storage openings. A disc-eject switch slides forward to lock the magazine into place for the blaster to function.

To prepare for rapid firing, squeeze down on an acceleration trigger to power up the motor. At that point, you're free to pull the standard trigger and overpower your opponent with the range of your blaster. In the rare case of a disc jam, the disc-eject switch easily slides backward to clear the jammed disc.

Realistic and Customizable Detailing

An attachable Centerfire Tech Electronic Scope centers your aim with pulsing targeting lights, which can flash at three different rates with the push of a button. Though our testers did not often use this accessory, they found its multiple light-up options provided a pleasing extra detail to the overall battlefield experience.

Because it uses the Tactical Rail System, Nitron is compatible with most accessories from Vortex and N-Strike systems, giving you the option to personalize this blaster.

This is my son's review of this Nerf product:

This Nerf gun is fantastic! Everything about it is cool. It shoots automatically and has great distance each shot. There's only two things I don't like about it. One, if you're shooting inside your house you can lose the discs (bullets) very easily. They basically bounce off every wall you have in your house! The second one, the laser sights that come with this gun aren't very useful. It's basically a flashing green light with low visibility. Once again this guns range is incredible! If you really want to test it go outside on a nice day with no wind and fire away!. My guess would be this gun shoots between 35-50 feet! It shoots farther than any other of my Nerf guns! My rating is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The interesting thing about this gun is that it runs off a flywheel system, with the "automatic" part being some sort of governor plunger that pushes discs into the flywheels at a set rate. This gives the blaster a good reliable rate and range of fire, meaning that the learning curve is pretty simple. The integrated handgaurd safety that powers up the flywheels was a clever design, I like it a lot more than the flywheel release on something like, say, the barricade. That said, I would not recommend this gun to any hardcore nerfer. The reason for this is that it doesn't really provide anything the Praxis or the Vigilon can't do for half the cost or less. Basically the key killer for the Nitron is its rate of fire. It fires about 1-1.5 discs per second. This puts it in a weird position, since that's not fast enough to be something like a squad support blaster or a front man, but the weight of the 6 C-Batteries means that as a sniper it's too much excess weight. The nature of the Nitron's automatic fire puts it in a position where it's not really better than any of the other guns in the series, despite being 20 bucks more AT MINIMUM. That's really the only reason for the 3 star review:
It's a fun gun, but it's really heavy and expensive for the things it can do. If you wanna buy your child a blaster, go with the Vigilon or the Praxis, since both are good and reliable, and no matter what the blaster is the firing mechanism is the same for all of the non powered guns, so you're getting the same range. Do NOT get the nitron, as it's sadly a waste of money for what you get.

TO A MODDER HOWEVER, this blaster is amazing, because if you up the voltage with some good old fashioned Li-Ion 3.7V Batteries instead of the 6 1.Read more ›

This Nerf Vortex Nirton is the bomb! We own at least 15 different Nerf guns and this by far beats them all. I especially love how each mini disk shoots so far from where I stand. I'm pretty sure my brother an sister are mad at me every time I sneak up on them and blast them - I never miss because I'm standing a good distance from them and they have not idea of coming! The best part is that it's automatic shooting and I can get 4-5 discs out before they even know what hit them. I wish it didn't take such big batteries (D) because I think that adds to the weight of the machine for me. If your kids are much younger this is going to be too big and heavy for them. I'm hoping for some extra replacement disc to be in my birthday gifts in a few weeks. I've lost a lot of them because they bounce off things easily and get lost.

When NERF announced the Vortex line of blasters earlier in the year, and that the disc-shaped foam projectiles were going to be used, I was skeptical. I thought, why would they abandon the tried-and-true darts and go with discs? It just didn't seem possible that the discs would be as accurate as the darts.

Well, a week after getting my Nitron and playing with it, I am a firm convert. This thing ROCKS! This is the first NERF blaster (that's not modded) where I can get the projectiles to go consistently where I aim the blaster. And while the discs in flight seem deceptively slow, it's still fast enough to smack you, right when you think "that thing's so slow, I can easily move out of the way (à la Neo in the Matrix movies!). Since I've gotten the Nitron, I've also picked up the Vigilon, Proton, and Praxis from a local store, and I can attest that they all shoot accurately, despite the Nitron being a flywheel blaster and the other three being spring-powered.

This thing is just FUN.

I have two minor complaints. OK, they are not really complaints, they are more of observations. First, because the discs spin rapidly when you shoot them, whey they hit the target, they don't just fall down or bounce down like the darts, instead they ricochet off at an angle and end up far from where you hit. In our office we've lost disproportionately more discs than we have with the foam darts. The other observation is the cost of the replacement discs. At the local store, it's 10 for $6. A bit pricey, considering how easy it is to lose them.

Very highly recommended!

This is a battery operated Nerf gun, which has a high performance ignition fan that when turned on and with the squeeze of the trigger will propel the disc! This is a very high-tech toy!

My son is an avid Nerf collector and knows a lot about them. This is a video review he did of the Vortex series and tells you about the different features of each one.
