In all seriousness the Sledgefire shoots about 30ft indoors, and sometimes the darts go a little wild. I wouldn't use this outside if you're like a serious Nerf person, but as a back up for close-range this thing is pretty cool, and the loading and unloading is just fun.
Changed from 2 stars to 3 stars due to a very positive Customer Service experience. Contacted Hasbro and not only were they quite apologetic but they also are going to replace the gun free of charge (free shipping as well). Unless something odd goes wrong during the course of the exchange my 3 star rating will stand. Normally I'd be a little more forgiving but with my issue being shared by many others I have to assume it's a design flaw and therefore not worth more than 3 stars to me.
At first this gun was great, it fired far and fast and the flip-down reload action makes it really easy for my son to use. Now the downside, like many others the gun has lost a LOT of velocity when firing. It's been used regularly for about a month and now it only seems to "spit" the darts out instead of firing them. I guess I'll be looking into mods to see if I can correct the issue but it's not something I should have to worry about after only a month in. Quite disappointing, buyer beware!
Only problem I have is I cannot locate spare 'shells' to hold darts in. Don't lose them, it's best to just pull out an empty and put it on the spot in gun stock so you don't lose track. Oh, and when the gun is empty pull the trigger so the action isn't left cocked when stored, this is bad on the gun. Don't worry, firing dry will not hurt the gun because of the air resistor.
*Update (1-30-18): apparently the barrel breaks clear off after a good usage. Mine lasted a couple years of sporadic use (I field test many blasters). This is the second one that broke the same way. I had purchased several over the course of the last three years and two of the newest ones have defective barrel release catches. The older ones are dead. I repaired the older ones with the newer Sledgefire’s working parts, but I am afraid the blaster has an Achilles’ heel. The somewhat thin hollow plastic hinge piece that connects the barrel to the blaster is burdened with the weight of the heavy spring pressure, and it likely also has to deal with the rough operation of the user. Each time the blaster is fired, the priming required it to be stressed. What was the thought process of the Nerf engineers to make the main hinge hollow and thin? I could probably drill a bolt through the hinge in a last ditch effort to repair it, but that would not be worth the effort. I am reducing this blasters star rating by 2. It was great while it lasted, but it obviously 1.) cannot stand the test of time, and 2.) Nor was the release catch defect on later models an overlookable error.
