The unit sat in my garage for over a year (warranty period exceeded). First use was great. Went to use about a week later and there was no fan or heater. Called Nesco. No warranty coverage, which technically and legally is certainly their right. I was given phone number of repair center.

Called repair center, they immediately (immediately) stated the problem was a blown fuse which they would send me for $8. With the warning the fuse was soldered onto the board.

I cut the fuse off, used some clips to attach the new fuse, and the unit works. The design looks flakey; the fuse is directly above the heating elements so it is not only dealing with the current, but also the heat of the unit. Given how quickly they 'diagnosed' the problem and what appears to be a marginal design I am very surprised there are not more failures documented in the reviews.

I bought this to replace my original American Harvest FD-1000. It lasted 15 years and dried at least 2 tons of fruits and vegetables. This newer model FD-1010 has a more powerful fan and dries faster than the original. The review that complains about dripping into the base is not using the dehydrator properly. This unit comes with a solid fruit roll sheet. Put it on an empty tray in the bottom of the stack and it will catch the drips. Also the clean a screens are essential for sticky stuff like tomatoes and grapes. You lift the screen from the tray, give it a twist and the fruit comes off easily. I have the trays and extra screens from the old unit so I can stack them 15 high. Not sure about claims with 30 trays as that seems quite unwieldy. Did a full load of pears last night, tomatoes the previous night and a lot more harvest to go this year.

This unit is great for people serious about dehydrating large amounts of produce or what-have-you.

I miss the variable-speed fan that was available on earlier models. The fast moving air is not necessary after the first few hours, and as I like my dried fruits crispy, that means many hours of running the fan at its max (and now only) speed. Waste of energy, but drying is supposed to be the most energy-economical method of food preserving. Also, I have a problem with the greater noise level of the new fan. If you have a small living space, I'd recommend putting this machine in the garage while it's working. If that's not possible, consider buying one of the older models with the less powerful, quieter fan.

I've been dehydrating with these for 10+ years and finally had to replace one. Last year I used the new one to dry 50 extra-large bell peppers. It took all 30 trays. It made enough to last me 3 years. Because I dry them crisp, I can machine slice the peppers and easily crush them into useable lengths by hand--much faster than chopping them and placing all those little pieces on trays.

I prefer not to stack it with all 30 trays, because I have to get on the kitchen step-stool to reach the top. For this reason, I prefer to have two units for when I have an ultra abundance. But it absolutely, definitely will dry your produce in about the same amount of time whether you use 5 trays or all 30.

The screens and sheets are absolutely worth having for every tray I own. I recommend getting a book on dehydrating because there is so much more you can do than you will get out of the instruction book. Some of the recent ones include "newer" produce such as kiwi that aren't in the older books. As far as expertise goes, I think the best info comes from books published by Rodale Press.

Happy drying!

I have used this for one year, and during that time have only used it a few times. Of course it is now just past the warranty, and the on/off switch has gone out. My husband pulled the switch and called Nesco to see about replacing it. They wanted us to send the entire unit back to them, pay for shipping both ways, pay a labor fee, and pay for the part. The service rep also told us that we should always put in all four trays even if using only one. I'm not certain how that makes a difference to the on/off switch, however, nor how it would effect draw, etc. We will replace the switch ourselves and hope for the best.
When the dryer is working, it dries just fine and has a good capacity. We ordered it last year too late for a bumper apricot crop but in time to dry some apples and tomatoes. We had no apricots this year, so it has only been used for a few batches of apples and tomatoes in August and September. Not exactly a workhorse!

I love this dehydrator. I purchased this as a second and cannot praise it's functionality enough. I had considered getting a more expensive model, however it is restricted in the number of trays that are usable. This one can stack 20 high and the motor is in just the right place, on the bottom so the heat from the fan rises up easily. I've been dehydrating with the Gardenmaster for over a year now and can't be more pleased with the results.

You will not be disappointed with the Gardenmaster!

Really can't say.
The dehydrator was non-operable; neither the fan nor thermostat worked with dirt from other people's food stuff on tray parts & lid. It also had a dent in the metallic portion, yet the box was not dented!
To bad since we had a similar model for over 20 years and it worked almost flawlessly!
The Boss recommended this model over the top-down heating system due to physics. Heat rises! and thus distributes, drying fruit leathers, from sugarless applesauce, evenly. We had the top down Nesco and that was fair, though it lasted only 5 years!
Amazon was great in the return process.
