Flexible square screens make drying sticky foods easier to remove. Screen flexes for easy removal of sticky fruits such as pineapple. Perfect for drying small items like spices and herbs that would normally fall through the spokes of the tray. 2 Screen included. Fits FD-80 and FD-80A Square Dehydrator. Colder ambient temperatures may cause the bend to temporarily hold in that position. Consequently, warmer ambient temperature would flatten it out. Please run the item under hot water to flatten.

At first I thought they were just a gimmick, but they really work. With bananas, if I don't use these, then it takes about fifteen minutes of hard labor to peel the bananas off, and my fingers are sore for days after. If I do use these, then it only takes 15 seconds, and the bananas just slide off without breaking. I bought two of these packs, so now I have five total. The one that came with my drier, and then two each in both packs equals five. I also got two extension trays, so now I have six total trays for my drier, but only five of these screens.
And, the Nesco standard trays aren't bad for bananas, at least compared to regular dehydrators. These special screens just make drying so much easier.
+A must have for any drying of stuff that might get stuck
+Doesn't block any air flow
-You'll end up having an odd number of these screens for the even number of trays that come with the dehydrator
I use these to make "Vegetable Chips" by shredding Zucchini, Kale, and other veg, mixing in a touch of Olive Oil, Lemon Juice and Zest, Salt and Ground Flax seeds. It makes a sort of wet mixture from all the water in the Zucchinis, this turns the flax seed meal a bit gooey like eggs and this holds it all together.
The pieces or shredded veg are too small to go onto the main trays, but the mix spreads perfectly onto these Clean Screens. The next morning I have delicious crispy vegetable chips. They come off clean and the trays are easy to wash.
These screens are also great for anything too small to put on the normal trays, or anything wet and messy because they are so much easier to clean.
The price is good and Amazon shipping rocks.
With these screens, peeling the fruit off after dehydration is a piece of cake. They're also easy to wash/rinse and will probably mean that I will be running my dehydrator even more.
However, there are a couple of cons. You'll end up with an uneven number of screens compared to the trays you got with your dehydrator. Also, I believe that the screens have actually extended the dehydration process. Mind you, I've been putting the same amount of fruit and actually using more trays to spread it out — it still takes longer than just putting the fruit directly on the trays. But I will gladly take an extra hour or two of running the dehydrator than having to deal with scrubbing those trays.
Have had these for over a year now.
When I purchased the 8 that I needed the price was $9.99 for 2. Maybe Amazon changed the description, but I checked my order and for 4 X 2 clean-a-screens it was $39.96
They were used through last years growing season to dry apples, peaches, bananas, tomatoes, strawberries, herbs, some pasta and over 30 pounds of jerky.
They perform the task I expected them to perform and consistently meet my expectations. They are an invaluable aid especially when drying fruit, fruit leather and herbs,.
I'm just not sure why some folks complain that these screens are difficult to clean. Yes, some things stick more than others and yes, they do need to be cleaned after each use.
If what you want or need is non-stick, no clean, then skip the dehydrator, skip the screens and go purchase your dried fruit and veggies at the store.
You need a bit of patience with anything that is home made. That's why folks purchase goods instead of making them. To make them requires patience. Patience that too many folks just don't have today.
10/17/13 update: I noticed that some of the perforations don't go all the way through the screen with seems to make drying uneven and make them harder to clean. I don't know if it's just the add-on screens I purchased or whether the originals were that way too. I think it's just sloppy manufacturing. I get around it by moving the food around to different positions on the trays as they are drying, but that's kind of a pain. For this reason I lowered my rating on this item to three stars.
