[Original Inissia Review]
I own the Citiz for home use and bought the Inissia with coworkers to keep at work. Compared to the Citiz the Inissia is pretty comparable in quality and construction and is around $70 cheaper than the Citiz currently.
The Inissia is compact and well made. It is fairly easy to use and makes great espresso. The water heats up just as fast as the Citiz which so far has been about 25 seconds so you can get your coffee fix in the morning very fast.
I appreciate that the water reservoir detaches like the Citiz and unlike the Citiz, the lid on the water reservoir is a flip lid and attached to the container. Also, while the expended pod catch container isn't as flashly looking as the one on the Citiz, it is just as functional and considering it is all black, it doesnt show the coffee staining like the clear and light plastics of the Citiz.
The only issue I've really had with the Inissia is the dripping. I suggest leaving the drip tray down at all times unless you need to fit a larger cup during brewing. The Inissia can drip for a while after you're done brewing and when I had it setup at my desk, it randomly started dripping quite a bit of water hours after I had made a drink. It is an annoyance but not a big one considering the drip tray leads into a decently sized water catch reservoir of its own housed under the expended pod catch. It is very easy to remove and dispose of the excess water and expended pods.
For the price(~$99) I am satisfied with my purchase. Despite the dripping it makes a great cup of espresso and it makes it fast and easy. A 5 star espresso maker at this price point wouldn't have the dripping issue for me. , However, it cost about $.75 per shot compared to $2.00+ that you'll spend at a coffee shop. The machine will be used pretty frequently by many different people so I will update this review when it has had some wear and tear. For now, I can easily recommend this for the price and the good coffee it produces.
[UPDATE to original Inissia Review]
I wanted to update my review after having owned and regularly used the Inissia every day for over 6 months now. The machine has held up very well with continued use by many people daily and it consistently puts out my necessary morning cup of espresso.
[Aeroccino Plus Review]
The frother is weighty and feels durable and high quality. I really like the use of magnets to attach the mixer and I appreciate that two different mixers were included. One whisk is included for a lot of froth and a mixer for light froth to no froth.
The operation is very simple. You add milk to the fill line, put the lid on top, and press the button. After that it silently warms and froths the milk and in not a lot of time either. I don’t have experience with other frothers but this seems to do a good job while being fast and silent. It also is pretty easy to clean. I worry about some appliances because if they are difficult to clean, they won’t see as much use. I think due in part to the magnetic mixer part and the water proof construction, the frother is almost as easy to clean as a standard cup.
It works surprisingly well and considering you would pay around $60 for it by itself, this package seems to be a pretty good deal if you really want the milk frother. I have only used skim milk so far and I wasn’t really sure that it would be able to froth it well but it warmed and frothed the skim milk very well. Also I want to point out that while I haven’t tried using almond milk personally, I have seen videos online of people successfully using the two main varieties of almond milk and frothing them very well.
It is designed well, it is fairly easy to clean, and it works well. If you like cappuccino’s, latte’s, and macchiato’s, then the Nespresso Inissia combined with the Aeroccino Plus Frother is a great deal at around $115 and is easy to recommend.
Nespresso Inissia- my 1st experience with a Nespresso. The Inissia is a quality machine which you will see as soon as you open the box. Compact, solid and very slick and simple to operate. It came with a sampler pack of Nespresso coffees, which I had to start 'rating' from my 1st coffee so as to not lose track of what I liked. I have ordered another sampler pack (cheated by getting on ebay) so as to try the coffees again as a different brew, realizing that I needed to try them as espressos, lattes or cappuccinos. I now have a shortlist of roasts that suit my taste. The coffees are outstanding and I fully agree with other reviewers that you will have a hard time matching the quality with the few generic replacements available. I had many, many years of excellent coffee from the Flavia Fusion, but the coffee deteriorated when roasting was taken over by Alterra and although still good, I felt the need to find another coffee option. I found it with Nespresso. There are some reviews referencing special and free deals on their website when you purchase a Nespresso: well, it depends on how much you spend in the 1st place as the promo at this time is $100 credit for coffee if you spend $199 or more on the coffee maker. This might allow you to upgrade to another machine as a trade off for coffee, which could be good value for someone contemplating the price difference. You may want to check their website at the time of buying the machine, but the current offer of a sampler for $149 with free shipping, or the offer of a free pod holder with order of 150 pods, didn't quite work for me.Due to the cost, I'll order as needed and specifically for the coffees that I like.
The coffee maker comes with a very impressive hard cover folder which is where my only negative feedback comes from. The coffee guide is great, and I started making notes on each coffee pod used as I quickly discovered that they are unrecognizable once used as the name has been fully perforated and there are several similar colors. But my irritation was that the Welcome leaflet refers you to the Smart Start leaflet to start making your first cup of coffee. That basically tells you to make sure you've reviewed the user guide (My Machine); the picture blob instructions were borderline useless to convey what it was trying to explain, so I gave up and went online for clarity. If you've owned a Nespresso before, then you know what to do, otherwise head for their website (which when I looked, didn't have instructions/videos specific to the Inissia, but functions are similar if not the same as the Pixie, so you can figure it out from there). All makes sense now!
Aeroccino Plus Milk Frother- this is absolutely brilliant! It heats and froths while you are making your coffee and has 2 interchangeable whisks that you keep stored in the frother itself; one for latte and one for cappuccino. Serves hot or cold. Insert the desired whisk and fill to the maximum line for each version and you have almost instant, hot frothy milk.I start frothing the milk before starting my coffee, and they are usually done about the same time, maybe 40 seconds or so. One cup at a time, but it is so worth it. Easy rinse and ready for the next round! Bliss!!
Yes the coffees are expensive and their website still appears to be the best place to get them, but so far I believe the quality and coffees are well worth it.
- Majority of parts are plastic - feels less durable
- Major gripe is water reservoir lid doesn't fit completely over the tank - there is a slight gap around the edge for dust/etc to get into the tank
- Personally not impressed with aeroccino plus - looks well built and thoughtful in design but frothing Costco organic whole milk was not good
- Milk was way too stiff - had to be spooned out of container, risking scratching up nonstick coating - maybe 2% or regular milk performs better
- Milk didn't get as hot as I'd like
- I much prefer the stainless steel plunger frothers like HIC brand - works perfect with Costco organic whole milk - no parts to break/wires/counter clutter
I bought this because I just needed something basic to meet my daily needs and didn't want to spend a lot, but for Nespresso starters this is the one to get: basic, good price and quality to get used to the coffee. Then you can upgrade to something higher in the future.
Don't forget the Aeroccino, the non plus ultra of the whole experience, the must have accessory.
