The last section is also really cool! It has a floor grid and cut-out furniture pieces and a checklist that I can't wait to play around with!
The book has useful charts and questionnaires which will help the reader in decision-making and it's very clear and easy to read. It's a wonderful springboard to begin to articulate your personal style. I teach a class on interior design through continuing education and find the book very useful for students as an introduction to a complex subject like interior design.
If you are shy about color or modern furniture, I think this book will be good for you. It reflects the way a modern person lives. For one, today's person has to be more easily able to move their furniture around than people once did, The people who had all that heavy furniture were born and died in the same town, usually in the same house. We are a lot more mobile. Since the Nest also has its own website which carries through on all of these topics, you can view the book as a launching pad and then take up permanent residence on the website.
If you are a professional in this field, this is not the book for you. It is not aimed at a decorator audience.

buying it in the near future. The book is laid out in a very easy to read way. Its almost like a hybrid between a book and a magazine. The part that made me want to buy it the most was the quick easy vocabulary with images, which will really come in handy as I am just starting to memorize the basics. These include things like carpet types: cut and loop, cut pile, exc. Most popular chairs with a brief history, kitchen cabinet fronts, countertop materials and triangle layouts. Another fun thing I found was it tells you how far your couch should sit from your tv depending on its size. All and all this book is a great book that holds a lot of information without being complicated.
On the other hand I'm not sure I agree with the name "home design", because in the design field things are MUCH more technical then this book talks about. It really is to just give the average homeowner an idea about some of the things designers do, not necessarily how to do them. Don't worry though, the majority of the book is about decorating, which anyone can do.
I hope all of that made sense. :)

Very vanilla, middle of the road book. I found this book to be very basic and not at all interesting.Published on December 5, 2013 by Sarlou
