A thinner, sleeker design. A bigger, sharper display. The 3rd generation nest learning thermostat is more beautiful than ever. With far sight, it lights up when it sees you coming and shows you the time or temperature from across the room. And the nest thermostat is proven to save energy. That's the most beautiful part, Works with Alexa .

I'm actually writing a review in hopes to help others not go through what I just went through.
I bought the nest and after a frustrating 2+ hours, I'm promptly returning it. First, I went through the whole setup and everything was fine...at first. My house at this time was sitting at 79 degrees. I turned on the a/c and had cool blowing air for about 2 minutes. At which time the system shut off. I happened to go outside and noticed that the a/c unit was still running but nothing was getting cooler. At this point the real problems began. I looked up online possible fixes to my nest short cycling my a/c unit. Came across "common wire issue" apparently the nest leeches power off your furnace to run it's system (as opposed to being run on batteries) what was happening since I didn't have a "common" wire the system would fail safe and shut off only to try and run again 2 mins later and the cycle would repeat indefinitely. So I watched several videos and read several forums and tried to do the troubleshooting. I swapped my fan wire "G" to make it my common wire "C" and replaced it on the furnace unit as well. When I checked the nest system it began to tell me it didn't have power anymore and shut itself off. With the main unit off the app became useless and literally it became a paperweight. I even tried setting it back to its original wiring (going through the whole process again but in reverse) and still nothing. At this point I'm drenched in sweat so I switched back to my old unit and I can say as I sit in my cooling house it still works.
So I'm returning my unit and I will be so happy to get my $200 refund for what was essentially a waste of time, energy and of course money.
I received a thermostat that had already been unboxed and used. The long install screws were covered in drywall dust from being installed already, and one of the small screws was missing, as were the stickers to label the wires. More on that next.
Anyway, the battery was completely drained and the thermostat took hours to charge also.
As I followed the app to install, the part came to take a picture of the current wiring, so I did that. Then I put my phone down and finished disassembling the old thermostat. When I picked up my phone, the app had signed out and lost the picture because I had to re-start the whole process. Not cool, Nest. Fortunately I was able to recover the photo by browsing the app cache on my phone, which is far too technical for most users. Overall, my experience has been very poor. I'm waiting for a C wire adapter to be delivered tomorrow to get the system working again. I'll continue to use the system, but my initial rating is terrible because of how much I paid for false advertising and already been used equipment for full price.
If you have a conventional two-wire system like me (Rc and W1), this is exactly what you need to get your smart thermostat working!
When I removed my Honeywell digital thermostat (non wifi), it had only two leads connected: Rc and W1. Not knowing anything about the latest generation of wifi thermostats, I went ahead and ordered the Nest Pro Gen III thermostat. Upon setup, I ran into two codes; e73 and e74. Essentially, they had to do with no power going to the unit. my VIN and VOC were 2.50 so I dug around on the internet, which led me to this transformer.
One lead went to C (24v common) and the other to Rh (see my photo of the interface's digital connection diagram). You may need to swap between Rc and Rh if you still have a error code readout. After plugging in the transformer, the VIN AND VOC read 34.17!!! Remember to plug this transformer into a surge protected outlet to prevent a possible damaged thermostat.

After installing the setup was very easy and quick. All functions are working perfectly and we have already started saving energy!
Best feature is to control by i phone. Chick and simple to control. I am not sure how much energy we save after we installed this thermostat.
