About the Author

Jon Thompson, M.D. received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. Dr. Thompson has worked as both an emergency room physician and a research assistant in the Extremity Trauma Branch of the Institute of Surgical Research. Currently, he is a resident in orthopeadic surgery in the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium at Brooke Army Medical Center and is a corresponding member of the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

down to earth

I love the big netter book, but this one doesn't cut it

I am a physical therapist, and wanted a quick reference guide and easy way to educate patients without trekking around the huge Netter. This has some pictures, but does not include many of my favorites and most frequently used. It also has a lot of pictures of naked people. Yes, I see we're on the elbow section, why do I need a naked person next to the elbow picture? I don't care one way or the other for myself, but I found it a little awkward when showing a patient a picture and constantly having there be a naked person standing there when I'm just trying to explain knee anatomy. Not worth it for me.

I'm on my orthopedic rotation in school, and having about 10-15 min between surgeries is perfect for me to whip out this book and review the anatomy of the surgical field. Its good to review the physical exams in the clinic in between patients. It's not the end-all be-all book to study for boards, but it'll keep you from looking like a complete fool in front of the preceptor.

I'm a surgical rep and this book has served as very nice desk guide for numerous years in my office now. Netter's Illustrations are phenomenal as always! Scope of content leaves some to be desired. Also this is a rather small reference in size, not the typical 'Large' anatomy illustrations Netter's is commonly recognized for.
