About the Author
Teddy Burriss is world renowned as a Social Networking Consultant and Networking Strategist. After a successful career of Organizational Development, IT Management, Technology Sales and Operational Management, Teddy discovered that his purpose in life is to teach others the lifestyle and skills of Networking for Mutual Benefit as well as how to build relationships in real life (IRL) & thru the deliberate use of social media. Teddy lives a blessed life with his wife, four daughters, son-in-laws and growing population of grandchildren. For these blessings Teddy decided to create a business where he volunteers 50% of his time every day and runs his consulting business the balance of the time. Teddy writes daily on his blogs "Are you listening to me?", "Notes from NCWiseman" and "Burriss Consulting." Teddy is a fun loving, approachable professional focused on helping others as well as building his business. He has never met someone he could not strike up an interesting conversation with. When asked, "How are you?", his never wavering reply is another core lifestyle, "I am unbelievably fantastic, hovering near ecstasy." It's all about the attitude.

Intuitively, he knew there was a better way: building relationships based on giving and gratitude. To put it plainly: helping people is the surest way to make people want to help you. There is a catch, though: helping people with the expectation of payback corrupts the process.
So Teddy's point is: help people because you want to help, but with no expectation of getting anything in return. Over time, people remember the people who helped them out in the past, and this makes them more likely to help you out in the future.
Teddy doesn't promise anything he can't deliver. He doesn't say "hey sales professionals, here's how to boost your numbers by 27.2%" or anything like that. It's more of a reminder that the commonsense knowledge we deal with everyday -- doing good brings good in return -- also applies to our work and careers.
Those introductory conversations will not be successful if it’s “Me” first and the other person being an afterthought. Rather, we should strive to develop a “You” first conversation that will develop into a conversation about mutually helping each other.
To those concerned that this is a “Zen” type of book, it is not. It talks in real world terms about how we can become more successful personally and professionally by simply starting a conversation.
The book is well laid out with practical examples of conversations developing into mutually beneficial relationships. It is intended to help all of us who are seeking more beneficial and fulfilling relationships in our lives.
