Brent Garland is a writer, attorney, and public policy professional. He has previously held a variety of professional, academic and public policy roles, most recently a senior staff position at the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

His policy and scholarly work has focused primarily on the social, ethical, public policy, and legal implications of various scientific and technological fields, including psychology, neuroscience, medicine, and biotechnology. As the editor of Neuroscience and the Law, he was fortunate to have a front-row seat to some of the groundbreaking work in this developing multi-disciplinary field.

His articles have appeared in numerous journals and volumes, including Current Opinion in Neurobiology; Law and Contemporary Problems; the Oxford Encyclopedia of Science, Technology, and Society; and the Journal of Philosophy, Science and Law.

Brent maintains a broad range of interests and studies, including legal ethics, criminal law, bioethics, and contemporary philosophy. He is also at work on his first novel.
