This has always been my favorite Amy Grant album. If someone is new to Amy Grant's contemporary Christian music I would probably choose her Age to Age album first and then maybe Unguarded, but Never alone is a great addition to your collection. Although it sounds very "late 70's early 80's" now, the words will still touch your heart. I bought the cassette back in the early 80's listened to it faithfully, I was in high school at the time; As an adult the lyrics have a completely different meaning to me now. My favorites are So Glad, Family, If I have to die, and especially All I ever have to be. Just recently I was struggling with my job and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and I listened to the words in the song and it was as if God was personally talking to me through the lyrics of the song. It is a very inspirational album.

I bought "Never Alone" when I was 13 years old. That was about 11 years ago. I have had the same cassette tape all this time. I've since bought the CD to keep up with the times. This CD has been a staple in my life. Through everything imaginable. The songs move me, inspire me, humble me and make me want to be a better Christian. I've yet to hear another christian album with so many awesome convicting songs. Especially "If I Have to Die". That one is my favorite. This one is a must have!!

NEVER ALONE may not have the high, polished sound that Amy's more recent albums exemplify, but that doesn't dilute the album's moving messages and majestic arrangements. From powerful songs about making Christian choices ("If I Have To Die," "Too Late") to quiet ballads about accepting God's will ("So Glad," "All I Ever Have To Be") to upbeat tunes that acknowledge the wonderful transformation of salvation ("Look What Has Happened To Me," "It's A Miracle"), this is all-around a great Christian album. Don't let the date throw you -- this album is worthy of any listener's purchase.

This is one of Amy's albums that every one seems to forget about, which is a shame. This isn't like her recent albums like "Heart In Motion", "House Of Love", or "Behind The Eyes", but it is still very good, and its still Amy Grant, even though it was released in 1980 when Amy was supposedly a sophmore in college. The songs have BEAUTIFUL melodies, and beautiful production and arrangements, too (it sounds like Amy was experimenting with the synthesizer on just a few of the songs on here, which isnt a bad thing at all). There are songs that have a happiness to them ("Look What Has Happened To Me", "Don't Give Up On Me"), that are moving and very deep ("All I Ever Have To Be", "Thats The Day", "If I Have To Die", "So Glad") and songs that are just winnning songs ("Walking Away With You", "It's A Miracle"). This is a true christian album, and Amy performs these songs with honesty, and emotion. If you are a fan of christian music, or a fan of Amy's, YOU HAVE TO GET THIS! :-)

"Never Alone" was Amy Grant's third release, and Amy was only 20 years old when she released it, which was young for a Christian artist in the early 80s. But that doesn't make any difference to her songwriting abilities. This CD is one of Amy Grant's finest while she was still maturing on record. If you want to hear Amy at her best during the pre-Age To Age years, then buy this.

This is one of the first Amy albums I bought in my younger days and its always been one of my favorites. Its the last album she made before losing the conservative Christian crowd (actually this album had them wondering). But regardless, it has great music, good lyrics, and its unmistakably Amy!

Several reviewers have mentioned how overlooked this album is; that is a real shame. I agree with John from Tulsa that this is by far her best work, and probably one of the best ever CCM albums. One song in particular, "If I Have to Die" is incredibly powerful and IMO is the best Christian song ever recorded (I believe it was co-written by Amy and Gary).

Another thing that makes this album so special is its innocence. Still unmarried at this point, Amy has her whole life in front of her; unscarred by celebrity status and her failed marriage, the poignancy of the work adds to its brilliance and charm. Don't miss this album!!

As someone else said: don't let the late 70's and early 80's date throw you. You would then miss a great album. I'll always owe a tribute to Amy Grant as she's been the first and only artist that has managed with her talented songwriting and spiritual honesty to divert my attention as I began to taste obscure music in the secular industry at the critical and stormy age of 15 years old, back when I was almost becoming a fan of the "Madonna-Jackson" repertoire. It first started with her fresh pop & heavy produced "Heart in Motion" album in 1991. I was amazed at how a young female Christian artist could do such vanguard music and compete/surpass many artists in the mainstream. The 2nd album I gave a listen to was "Never Alone": so inspirational and in the meantime so rich in its beautiful arrangements and vocal performances. That's how Amy took my hand and made me want to follow Jesus for real, she led me to discover the realities of what it takes to follow Him with spiritual conviction but also by confessing our human vulnerability. It's what I've always liked in Amy's music: her honesty. Her music encourages me to be true and live my life as an opened book. Not a lot of artists have this capacity to vehicle the fundamental truths of the Gospel and put them into simple and faith-challenging words (even if she doesn't write all the songs in her repertoire). A good example in the Never Alone album is the majestic, faith-shaking and victorious "Walking away with You". It is sometimes so hard to keep up the Christian battle against the ennemy of our hearts. Still Amy honestly leads us through the depht of what it takes to stand firm and resist against him. "Shadows" is another great musical piece of art that reminds us the "two opposites" inside our soul and how easily the shadows of our sins can run behind us if we slow down in our walk with Jesus. Well guys, I could comment every single song of this album but I will just stop here and highly recommend this album to everybody.
