One should scarcely be willing to make any judgments of current or former U.S. policies without a fundamental understanding of just why young Arab men are flying airplanes into our skyscrapers.
I found myself constantly saying to myself "aha, that's why..." as this book links up for me so many unrelated memories of news headlines I recalled through the years.
The weakness of many books on this subject is that they are too overtly pro-Israel or pro-Arab, and one is left not sure if one is getting a balanced picture, even from the faction you prefer. The tone of this book is even-handed, highlighting goofs as well successes of each side, rather than shrill line-toeing propaganda.
Though an update would be great, this book is still an incredible resource for establishing the background understanding that so many Westerners lack in our current war on terror.
