Ok, so I've been wanting to read this since one of my twitter friends, Fiktshun, teased about it back in October. I have to be honest and say that I was totally jealous that she got to read it before ANYBODY else. But I have to say that the wait was so very worth it.

There was a little contest going on on Rachel Vincent's site as who can guess the POV. Sophie was not the one I would have picked. Sophie is known in the Soul Screamers series as being a person that every one kind of.....dislikes. She's horribly mean to Kaylee and is selfish.

This book was a nice look into Sophie's mind.

If you are new to my site and don't really know who I am, let me tell you that Rachel Vincent is my all time favorite author so I might be a little bit biased in this review. Although I'll try not to be.

As I mentioned earlier, Sophie wasn't my first choice for the POV of this novella but I'm glad she was. Even though I don't particularly like her, persay, this gave me a new perspective on her in the series.

This novella is totally action-packed and I could not stop reading. RV always has such a great way with words to make you feel like you're in the story. I don't want to put spoilers in my review in the off chance that someone reading this hasn't read If I Die yet.

I liked seeing a different side to Sophie. It was really refreshing. You think she's selfish when you read about her in the series but she's more than a pretty face and (sometimes) snotty attitude. ;-)

She pulls herself through a horrible experience and she does it by herself. It's great that she found a new strength in herself that she never thought she had. It was a great feeling to be able to share with her.

Sophie's biggest dream, so far, was to become the youngest Cheerleaders captain in the history of her school. The only thing standing in her way was her frenemy Peyton. But she knew how to take care of her so it wasn't a big problem.

Well, and let's not forget her cousin, Kaylee. Now that was a big problem. And although she had tried to change her last name so people wouldn't think they were sisters the true was that their non-existent relationship was damaging her reputation badly enough.
And everybody knows how difficult is it to build the perfect façade. Except for Kaylee, of course... it's like all she wanted was to ruin Sophie's life. And she was doing a terrific job with all the screaming and craziness around her.

But something that Sophie didn't suspect was that Kaylee wasn't crazy. And their whole family had been keeping secrets from her for a long while.
Now, when a gorgeous new guy arrives at school, the truth will unravel before Sophie, even if she is not ready to handle it.

Personal opinion:
If you have read the Soul Screamers series you already know Sophie and have an idea of her personality.
And most likely you hate her BIG time. Or at least you wouldn't mind giving her a punch. Or two.
What? No? Seriously? Because I wouldn't mind at all.

But (and trust me, I never thought I would write this and it gives me chills just to think about it #justsaying) it was fun, interesting and different to see through her eyes. Heck, I even liked her for a little bit! That is until she began to speak about Kaylee...

After reading this novella [picture me on my knees] I seriously can't wait to know what is going to happen next! The possibilities are so many to think about them... I mean, what is going to happen to Sophie?

I love the Soul Screamers novellas. They give such great insight into the other characters. I am not a Sophie fan but I'm not supposed to be! She is vain, selfish, and totally stuck in her own bubble. But her bubble is burst in this novella! She sees a soulless reaper appear in the school hallway and screams, taking her into the netherworld with the cute new guy, Luca, she just met.

Sophie freaks out and wonders if she is going crazy like her cousin. We get to see her perspective of the netherworld. She fights through some crazy obstacles and runs into some old characters. She is very snarky and witty. I enjoyed a bunch of her lines and had a lot of laugh out loud moments. Luca was hot and interesting too. I can't wait to see what he is up to in Before I Wake. A must read for all Soul Screamers fans but make sure to read it after If I Die, or you will be spoiled.

"If the universe was finally throwing me a bone-and let's be honest, it owed me the whole damn skeleton, after the year I'd had-I wasn't going to throw it back without at least taking a good look at the offering."

"I am not sacrificing a brand-new blouse to a bunch of venom-leaking thorns." Especially if taking my shirt off meant he would put his back on.

Okay, so I was going to start Goddess Interrupted but it took too long to download to my Kindle. So in the meantime I read Rachel Vincent's latest novella, Never to Sleep and it was awesome!

We finally get to be in Sophie's head. She's never been a fave character of mine. She's just plain cruel, selfish and nasty. And while we get to be inside her head this time around I can't say she's a whole other person, but we do get to see a different side to her. Like my mom always says "there are two sides to every story". And this time, we get Sophie's story.

This takes place during If I Die, as you may know by now and it opens up with a decent spoiler from the series. Nothing that ruins the ending, but still something MONUMENTALLY HUGE! And of course there is a new character to get to know.

Sophie turns out to have some of the family heritage in her blood, for after she meet Luca she saw something scary and screamed. And when she screamed, she was taken to the Netherworld and Luca happened to be next to her and went along too.

Sophie can't tell if she's dreaming or going insane as well when she enters the scary world. Even with Luca at her side the place is still dangerous. Yet Luca seems to know just how dangerous it is. Then she learns who he really is and what the world is really like.

Since this is a novella, I will cut myself off on the storyline. This was another fun read from Rachel's Soul Screamers series! Her novellas are always fun and these tend to tie into the series as well. At the end of this one, we learn that we will learn more about Luca in the next Soul Screamers novel! Which is exciting and with Sophie learning more about the world Kaylee already knows, I have a feeling things will be getting very interesting indeed!
