We met some of the characters in Anie's Never Series. Kalli was more of a supporting character in that series and a bit of a mystery. We find out why she is closed off and guarded in Never Standing Still. My heart goes out to her and her struggles. That said, there were times I wanted to shake her and say, "look at what you have girl...he is a keeper". Because of her history you just can't hate her. I felt for her and was praying for a happily ever after. She is sweet, selfless and caring for everyone in her life. She forgets that she deserves a life of her own and happiness.
Riot, oh Riot, what an amazing guy! He is the true heart and soul and star of this story! He is thoughtful, sincere, caring and loyal. He wears his heart on his sleeve and really loves Kalli! He is by no means a pushover though. He has a hot alpha component to his personality.
Kalli has setbacks, because of her past and doesn't feel like it is safe to let anyone get too close to her...for them or herself. She is a roadblock to her own happiness. When she decides to choose love will live throw her another roadblock to happiness?
There is great happiness and crushing heartbreak masterfully woven throughout this book. It sets the scene for an emotional and captivating read.
The book ends with a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the rest of their story.
I won a complimentary copy of this book. It is the best prize I have won in quite some time.
Book one of the Never Duet series
Kalli didn't do relationships. She had no problems sleeping with the men but she didn't want them staying around. When she gets a call for a job as a wardrobe manager for a video shoot she never thought how her life would change. When she meets Riot Bentley there is something about him that draws her in. Riot does everything possible to get close to Kalli. Because of her past Kalli keeps parts of her life separate even from her closest friends. She is raising her mentally challenged brother, that she keeps a secret. As she and Riot become closer she takes the chance to let him in her life. All parts of it.
I loved Kalli. She is a strong woman but the same time emotionally immature. She believes that men will never stay. Riot is one sexy man. He's sweet kind and willing to go at Kalli's speed. He just wants her. If it would be as a friend or a lover. Wonderful beginning to this new series. Can be read as a standalone. You actually meet Kalli in The Never Series as a friend of Ella and Megan. But beware there is one tear jerker of a cliffhanger. This book is full of emotional highs and lows. So keep the tissue box handy. Because you are definitely going to need them. I am hoping it isn't a long wait until the next book.
Kalli lived a glamourous life to those that didn’t know her. She was responsible for dressing artists for tv shows, movies, and videos which involved shopping, lots of it and meeting famous celebrities. Little did she know that her job would put her in touch with an up and coming actor, Riot, who she couldn’t keep herself from. He was different. He wanted to break down her walls and get to know the real person, to learn the heartbreaking story of Kalli. He wanted to learn about her, the secrets she kept hidden from those she called her friends. Would the idea and possibility of love between them be strong enough to hold them together during the tragedy that is strong enough to break Kali for good?
Anie Michael’s is a genius! I have yet to read a book by her I did not instantly fall in love with the story and the characters. This was not any different. As many are aware, this is sort of a continuation of her Never series, but is written based solely about Kalli and Riot, and is part of the Never Duet. She wrote this book during the same time frame as the other series but had a way of writing it so you felt it was separate. There wasn’t a repeat of much from the other book so it didn’t feel repetitive like other books I have read that have been written in the same time frame. She did a great job on that so the readers wouldn’t feel like they were reading part of the story word for word for a second time.
This story is heartbreaking, exciting, happy, and incredibly tragic. The emotion is raw. Their feelings for one another feel real. Kalli is a strong and independent woman. She is not unbreakable though. Her character was written with such finesse that it was easy to visualize her and how she would be if she were real. I didn’t want to put this book down. The story keeps you reeling, wanting more, and needing to know more.
This is a definite must read, without a doubt. Pick up your copy today, you won’t be sorry you did. If you want to learn more about Kalli’s great friends in her book, then pick up Anie’s other Never Series and read those also – there is nothing to be disappointed by this Author’s work!
