I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
Catherine is an immensely likable heroine with powers of her own who's crushed by the betrayal of someone she felt deeply connected to. Her reactions are that of any other mortal woman and I applauded her cross-country journey to find herself and her self-esteem once again. It doesn't hurt that she meets up with a sexy hitchhiking Australian who's not completely what he appears but who helps her find herself and empowers her against the ex who's always one step behind. Jeff makes Catherine feel whole and is a trustworthy support even though they just met. They make a formidable couple and I'm excited to see where their journeys take them as their future's just begun.
The action moves at a fast pace with slowly building sexual tension between Catherine and Jeff. Their sexual encounter is smoldering and well worth the wait but over far too soon. Rich is sexy and arrogant but I still found him compelling and wish we'd learned more about him beyond the superficial outward package. Throughout the story Catherine fears the upcoming battle between her and Rich, but once the foreboding reaches its zenith it's a big letdown. The whole ending felt rushed and unfinished but has me looking forward to more as the characters are enjoyable with an entertaining premise. Here's to a satisfying start to a new paranormal series that you'll definitely want to read!
Rich made a mistake that cost him his wife, he got caught with another woman in his marriage bed. Bad move on his part. Worst move was to piss off a witch.
Since witches only marry for a year and Catherine wasn't about to renew her vow with Rich, she was now a free woman. After hitting a bar for a much needed drink and staying at a B & B for a much needed rest, Catherine hits the road again only to see a hitchhiker looking for a ride to "Anywhere" according to the sign he's holding. Jeff the hitchhiker and Catherine decide to go to Las Vegas and blow off a little steam but she knows her ex will catch up to her looking to either try and win her back or get revenge for her leaving and she hopes Jeff doesn't get hurt in the crossfire.
This quick read was entertaining up until the last couple of pages when it lost traction for me and the story took a spin that left me thinking Catherine was naive, gullible and it's no wonder she ended up with a guy who would cheat on her. Other than an ending that I disliked because of how things came together, the story was an entertaining one.
If you're looking an interesting quick read, this might fit the bill.
Never Marry A Warlock (Novelette) by Marilyn Vix- A woman scorned is a dangerous thing, especially when that woman is a witch. This Novella gives you a glimpse into a relationship that has just fallen apart due to a cheating warlock. Catherine walks in on her husband of a year, Richard, in the arms of her friend Cassandra. After leaving and realizing she needs freedom she picks up a man hitching on the side of the road.
Very quick read. This novella opens up a new series for Marilyn Vix and introduces some great characters with good potential. This e-book provided some good action (between the sheets as well), some good lines and a nice start to the series. My favorite line is when Catherine is thinking back about Rich and Cassandra. ‘I’d like to wrap something around Rich’s neck. I considered wrapping his nuts, but I knew they wouldn’t be big enough.’
