2009 nine disc (four CDs + five DVDs) set. In October 2008, Coheed & Cambria performed the entire saga of their four interweaving concept albums (Second Stage Turbine Blade - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Vol 1 - No World For Tomorrow) live in sequential order over four nights in New York City . These performances included many songs they had never played live before, with each night being a unique visual presentation corresponding with the specific album. All four New York shows were shot and recorded for this special release fan pack. This box contains all four complete shows on separate DVDs plus an 80 minute documentary on DVD and all four shows on separate CDs.

The box set is very large and looks almost like a board game. The dragonfly is actually bigger than I expected, and the detailing is very cool.
The book has a collage of pictures of the band, tickets, old concert fliers and photos (I must digress....it was awesome to see the old Juliana Theory tour flier from when they played in Old Bridge...and the 2004 tour sticker with the bloody dragonfly...great shows!)
There's a section in the back for the "Children of the Fence" where, if you ordered during a certain period of time, your name would be in the book. If you did this, finding yourself among all the names is a great feeling! One among the fence!
Each of the 4 nights in Terminal 5 are on their own DVDs, as well as on CD. The DVDs are extremely well put-together. The sound quality is great, the way it is filmed reminds me of a movie or music video-awesome quality. There is also an 80 minute documentary that even for someone like me who has followed the band for 8 or so years, I learned new things about the band I never knew before!
There are also special scenes with all of the web casts they had done talking about toughest album to play, most fun album to play, etc. They were played online during Neverender on the band's website/myspace. The opening acts from Mic Todd, Richard Christy (I think that was his name), Davenport Cabinet, and Claudio introducing Night of Living Dead playing during NWFT are also on there, as well as some clips from the other 3 Neverenders (Chicago, LA, and London).
There are so many great things to say about this box set. Basically, if you are a fan of Coheed and Cambria, and you went to these shows...even if you didn't go to these shows but wanted to or wanted to feel like you're at a live show...this box set has it all and more. I laughed, I cried (not even a little ashamed to admit it...if you watch the documentary, you may shed a tear or two as well), I sang along. I love this box set. You will too!
The Neverender concert series originally took place in 2008 in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London. The event consisted of the band playing their first four album (one per night): The Second Stage Turbine Blade,In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3,Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness,Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow.
If I had to summarize the Neverender: Children of the Fence Edition in one word it would be "phenomenal." Coheed and Cambria's first four albums are all fantastic. Personally I feel that each of the first four were better than the preceding albums. To my knowledge there are two versions of the Neverender boxed set (not including a limited hot topic promo): Coheed and Cambria: Neverender and the Neverender: Children of the Fence Edition (this version). The former is cheaper (around $17 new) and the latter is currently listed on Amazon anywhere from $75-$175.
If you can afford (or can locate) a copy of the Children of the Fence edition of Neverender, this is the edition to get. The smaller 3 disc set is great (I owned it before I located a copy of the special edition), but the Children of the Fence edition comes with a number of bonuses beyond the DVDs. This edition contains:
-5 DVDs of the concert (one of which is a documentary)
-4 CDs from the concert
-a 48 page book that holds the discs
-and a beautiful 7.5" by 5.5" metal dragonfly.
The concert DVDs and CDs are amazing. The mastering and overall quality are superb--better than many live albums I've heard in recent years. The music from Neverender shows the incredible growth that the band has shown over the years. I wasn't able to get to the original shows, but fortunately I get to enjoy the CDs and DVDs any time I want. This is currently one of my favorite live sets. I would highly recommend for fans of the band.
The DVD footage is an enjoyable experience, but once viewed a time or two they'll stay neatly tucked away with the dragonfly and hardcover Neverender book. The bonus DVD is probably the only video item worth multiple viewings. That said, this is all bonus as the CDs of the Neverender are well worth the price of admission. The packaging is breathtaking, the extras abound. The decision to purchase for any Coheed & Cambria fan is an easy one at (almost) any price. It really is worth its weight in gold.
