I Almost missed the proverbial bus on this game! it's a fun blend of turn based strategy with card battles instead of the usual
attack/defend/guard formulas of old.
while the graphics aren't stunning the voice work is very good
and the art on the cutscenes is exceptional.
the game is fairly simple to pick up and play if you're a card gamer like me. the combination of needing to "conquer" land to summon monsters and cast spells had a very big "Magic the gathering" feel to it and anyone whom played battlemage on ps1 will want to look at this title. though not real time like battlemage the card selection and battles themselves can get very strategic and are a blast.
I'd recommend this game to any fan of card battlers
or turn based rpgs.
Graphics: not really up to snuff 3 stars
Sound: excellent voice work and decent sound fx 4 stars
gameplay: pick up and play simple. 5 stars!
Fun: a blast to play and a great portable game 5 stars!
Overall:
while this game may not be for everyone card game fans and turn based rpg/strategy fans should definately download the demo (available now from the playstation store) and make the decision for yourself. I however love it and recommend it. 4 stars!
Edit: I am STILL playing through the single player
and found another feature not really spoken of in the game
the ability to CHOOSE an opponent when Revisiting a battleground
you've been to before allowing you to earn More Cards
and get a better grasp of what style you are playing (or going to play) truly an excellent game that shouldn't be overlooked!
there are some balancing issues
but im enjoying it non-the-less :)
I seen this game earlyer and didn't pay attention to it. I've not been into card battle games.
But the more I looked into it, the more it was calling me to give it a chance.
I do like strategy games, very much, and that was the only reason I bought NCB.
My review? This game is very kewl! It is very rich with strategy!
Also, if you like Anime, this game oozes Japaneese. Not the best anime but it is there. Bad voice acting and everything and the graphics are so-so.
But the gameplay is what makes NCB a good game. It goes beyond chess and then some!
NCB has made me wonder what other card battle games are worth getting.
Give NCB a chance and you might be surprised! I was! :)
Thats my review! Until next time,,,,, BLLAAAAHHHH!
