This anthology is a collection of stories from nineteen Book View Cafe (an author-run cooperative publisher) about women persisting despite the odds against them. The tales span from ancient Rome to the far distant future and offer a variety of challenges from the physical to the artistic.
While this book is styled for the "resistance," you're not going to be reading a lot of current-day politics, it's more about the resilience of the female spirit and the desire to continue on despite rising odds from many different directions. This is a book you can give to your thirteen-year-old daughter and feel good about providing her with fictional role models. Contents inspire thought and inspiration far more than anger.
Usually when I read an anthology, I can pick out a favorite story or two. In this case, I can't. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. Many will introduce you to authors that are new to you and who will become instant favorites. "Nevertheless, She Persisted" is honestly one of the most uplifting books I've read in a good long time. It's needed particularly now when women are up against some of the greatest challenges they've faced in centuries.
Thanks to Mindy Klasky and the BVC authors for coming through!

The first story - Daughter of Necessity - is worth buying the book at any price, in my opinion. Told from the point of view of a hero's wife, and the fate which she weaves for him. And it is awesome.
The last story - Little Faces - is classic McIntyre. She weaves a rich universe of alien life that is as alien as it is familiar.
The stories in between are equally as good, as rich, as refreshing. Purchase this book - you won't be disappointed.
Life inherently includes challenges and struggles. When one is in the midst of struggle it is easy to feel alone in the world. Truth is, there is probably at least one other person who has been in a similar place.
This book is a collection of struggles...and the women who triumphed over them. I'd love to rave about my favorite short stories in the collection, but I don't want to give spoilers What I can tell you is while, as women, we are all unique, we are kindred spirits in the struggles of day-to-day life and those that seem extraordinarily challenging. This collection is a reminder that we need to be rocks for each other, foundations of safety, stepping stones to a better tomorrow. Why do we try to do it alone?
While I read this book in one sitting, it would be perfect for short bursts of reading time. So, whether you have hours to devote to these stories or a few minutes here and there, give it a read. You won't regret it!
With all this being said I did receive an advanced reader copy of this book for my honest review. I can say that this collection of stories is one that I really enjoyed. I loved the theme of powerful women doing/handling what needs to be done, accepting that fact and moving on. I love that a story can be read and then I can move on to something else to return later and pick up the next story. Multiple time periods are explored in this collection so there should be a story for everyone to enjoy. There were a couple of stories that I didn't really enjoy but this is more a character development for me than it was writing style or content. All in all a great collection of stories that all women should enjoy.
Definitely worth reading.
It may be important to know that only half of these stories have not been previously published. I have reviewed this as a condition of receiving an advance copy.
