From the Back Cover

The New American Democracy
Morris P. Fiorina • Paul E. Peterson • Bertram Johnson • William G. Mayer

The New American Democracy, 5th Edition, emphasizes the central role of elections in our political system and our evolution from a pluralist to a more popular democracy–and how both have profoundly changed the way American politics operates.

New to the Fifth Edition

  • The addition of a new co-author, William Mayer brings to the book additional expertise and a new perspective on key areas such as media and politics, and public opinion.
  • Expanded coverage! Several important topics, such as the relationship between the president and Congress, campaign finance reform, religious freedom, and globalization have increased in coverage.
  • Completely updated! Includes in-depth discussion of the 2006 midterm campaigns and elections, as well as updated chapter-opening vignettes, examples, data, and references throughout.

What Students Are Saying About Online Exams and Quizzes:

“I love it. I keep trying until I get a perfect grade and after a couple of times you know the content like the back of your hand!”

“I liked being able to view the results of the quizzes immediately instead of having to wait for them to be graded by the instructor.”

What Students Are Saying About Online Activities:

“The activities were my favorite part of the course. They took a different approach to an interesting subject and made it more applicable to real-life situations. This made the subject seem even more real than before.”

“I think they are a great tool to get students to interact with the material in a way you couldn’t really do in class.”

If you need access to MyPoliSci Lab online for your class, don't buy your book through Amazon. You'll have to buy the access code separately from the publisher for another $50+. Just get the book from your bookstore, or somewhere that includes an access code.

Needed this book for my Political Science class and so far it isn't so bad, it's more of a review of what you learned in high school if you can remember that far back, but it's an alright book. The seller i bought it from got it to me with fast shipping and i'm grate for that since i needed it for class. Thanks!

As other reviewers have said, this book doesn't include an access code to the MyLabs website. However, I got such a good deal on the book and it came in such good condition that I was better off purchasing the book and web access separately.

As far as the book content and format... While I was surprised at how up-to-date it is, the editing is so disorganized and terrible that the text is almost useless. If your course instructor doesn't give you an outline or lecture that makes coherent, orderly sense of the information in the book, you'll be better off with Wikipedia. If that's not an option and you're required to read this book, start at the end of each chapter and go backwards, reading each section topic until you reach the beginning of the chapter. No kidding. Much of the information also unnecessarily references chapters to come, and bases explanations on terms and material you haven't even read yet - this doesn't help much, unless you can read the entire book before each test day. Hopefully the authors/editors will improve this in newer editions.

I ordered a book and received an alternate edition to the regular book, which was missing a few chapters. I contacted the seller and informed them of the mistake and they gave me a full refund. I have never had such great service before. I truly appreciate the seller not only providing a refund but also letting me keep the book. I would recommend using this seller if he has what you are looking for and I myself will also be using him again.

It's a great book if you want to understand the lasest development in american democracy. Gives detailed explanations and coverers all the important components of our government.

Although it is a great book, be careful you actually want the alternate edition. I bought this book thinking it was the original with all the chapters. It is not the full edition! Everything is identical except this edition leaves out the last three chapters on policy.

Pro's
--Cheaper than the full edition by about $15-20
--Completely identical information and layout as the original (except the last three chapters#

Con
-- doesn't have the chapters on the country's foreign and defense policies. #well it's not really a con because I was the one that didn't pay attention when I bought it)

The first time I opened my brand new book several pages fell out. It's absurd that I am expected to pay over $100 for a new textbook and pages immediately fall out. If textbook companies are going to gouge students, they should at least try to make it look like we're getting our money's worth
