The New Anti-Semitism P Paperback – December 28, 2004

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 73 ratings

In this intensely passionate and compelling book, the best-selling feminist and Jewish writer Phyllis Chesler demonstrates how old-fashioned anti-Semitism has become newly fashionable, even politically correct, and how this plague threatens the Jews of the world, America, and Western civilization.

A dangerous, worldwide coalition of Islamic terrorists, well-intentioned but profoundly misinformed students, right wing fascists, left-wing ideologues, pious academics, feminists, opportunistic European politicians, and sensation-seeking international media have joined together to once again blame the Jews and the Jewish state for the current world crisis. Today, lethal activism against the Jews often takes the form of anti-Zionism. Osama Bin Laden, for example, blamed the 9/11 World Trade Center attack on U.S. government support for Israel. Since then, hundreds of synagogues have been burned, cemeteries and destroyed, and Jews threatened, boycotted, beaten, and killed. Jews have been blamed for huge stock market losses and for the decline of the world economy. The long-ago disproven Protocols of Zion, which accuse the Jews of an alleged world-conspiracy to conquer and control the world, have been revived and promulgated in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.

So what must we do? "Fight against the Big Lies," Chesler says. (No, the Jews do not control the world's money and media, and the Jews did not kill Christ.) Avoid rigid, dogmatic ideologies. Focus on the world's real problems (disease, poverty, illiteracy, violence) instead of scapegoating the Jews and demonizing the Jewish state. Be fair to Israel. Form Jewish-Christian, Jewish-Muslim, and Jewish-Palestinian alliances. Restore campus civility and above all, Jews must stop fighting among themselves.

A lot of people who like the status quo try to explain away anti-Semitism by saying it isn't that serious, or it is just the grumblings of a few disgruntled folks, or it is just people who are anti-Israel and not anti-Jewish...but Chesler (the auther) presents a clear and compelling argument that honest-to-goodness anti-Semitism is back with a vegeance, especially inportions of Europe and the Middle East.
She reports on how the line between legitimate criticism of Israeli government policies and outright hatred towards Jews is often crossed by academics and political commentators, even as they protest they are doing no such thing. She also covers very well the history of anti-Semitism and how it is very destructive to civil society.
This is a scary but necessary book.

Every week there are new attacks against Jews in Europe. Every day European parliaments and government officials focus obsessively on the conflict in Israel at the detriment of Islam-inspired conquest, rape and slaughter in dozens of other spots on the globe. Why? A new form of an old evil haunts Europe and increasingly North American universities. The new Anti-Semitism differs from traditional jew hatred: it is a manifestation of the left: a virulent racism practiced in the name of anti-racism.

Phyliss Chesler's "The New Anti-Semitism" - seemingly written in a white heat of indignation - is a call to action and should read by jews and gentiles alike who care about Israel and about a just world.

I discovered this book last summer (2014) during the latest Gaza conflict. All the news I was seeing portrayed the Palestinians as victims of the Israelis. In The New Anti-Semitism Dr. Chesler examines how Hamas and other terrorist groups control what journalists see and report. Israel bombs weapons caches with pinpoint accuracy to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza. The problem is, Hamas places their missiles in heavily populated areas like schools and apartment buildings. It's called human shielding. Jews outlawed human sacrifice thousands of years ago while their neighbors still practiced it. Hamas worships death. Jews do everything they can to preserve life.

Written by a Jewish liberal feminist who, to her great dismay, comes to realize how the left wing ideology of her co-feminists trumps every other consideration in their activism. The pro-Palestinian anti-Jewish stance of the left in the Western world force the women in the feminist movement
to forget the horrors suffered by the women in the Islamic world and, instead, push them to demonize and boycott the Jewish State where women live under western standard. It is a journey for the author and for the reader and it will be completed to date reading her next book: Living History.

Sensitive, Endearing. A must read for the facts on what is going on in this world right now that makes it such a troublesome place. For the security of the free world, the fierce attacks of hatred on the Jews, and now, the 'Western' way of life, must be understood to at least learn how to combat the problem. I read this book with tears in my eyes knowing thank God, this world is not our final resting place. My sincere thanks to the Author for sharing this gripping story and laying out the facts so well.

very well written book about the sickening reality of increasing anti-semitism and Israel hatred, all over the world. A must-read for everyone who sees the looming danger of the demise of Western values and the true face of Islam. Helpful questions and answers, e.g. 'what can we do to help? and more. The writing style is engaging, despite the scholarly subject.

All who call themselves Christians are not Christians, only those who love Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour are true Christians, and true Christians believe. Those who bless Israel God will bless, and those who curse Israel God will curse. The land of Israel was given to Abraham,Isaac and Jacob and their children as an everlasting covenant, and God will keep His promise.
