I have been experimenting with a pair of Merrell Road Gloves for the past few months (zero drop shoes) for a hard ball short distance shoe. When I say short distance I mean less than 5 miles on a run. Anyway, the impact on my shins over the miles leaves me with an ache that lasts for hours. I am a mid foot striker but when I get fatigued I can fall back on bad form and heel strike. I finally had enough of went to my local shoe store to buy another pair of Merrell's. These had a bit more cushion in the heel while still being light weight. However, the ache remained and I never had an ache with my trusty 10v2 Trail shoes.
I finally went on Amazon and looked around for a 4mm drop shoe like my trail and stumped upon the MR10v2. These shoes are great! They feel just like the 10v2 Trails with more padding to take the sting out of long runs. They are super light and I love the neon yellow color. I should have just stuck with my favorite shoe brand and never tested the waters in hindsight but at least I learned something. If you love the 10v2 Trails do yourself a favor and just get these shoes in the same size. You won't regret it.
First off going from the New Balance website they have a "see how it fits" guide. Since I have been running in MT10's and MO10's I plugged those into the calculator and it indicated I should go a half size larger. This at least in my case is not correct. It is almost to the point of being too big, but since I have already run in them I couldn't send them back but I wanted to make everyone aware that I believe you should get whatever your actual size is and not a half size larger.
Alright onto the shoe. As I said before I am coming from the 4mm drop trail shoe. I finally decided to get a set of road shoes since most of my running is on cement and asphalt. I was also having problems with my IT band on my left knee and figured my current shoes had over 800 miles on them so it was time to get a new set.
Surprising amount of cushion for a minimal shoe
I love the soles of these shoes, I feel like I could trail run in them too
I lost the loop on the heel, I used this to attach them to the outside of my gym bag
I am not sold on the new tongue yet but it might grow on me
Not for wet running, you WILL get wet feet (not really a problem though)
As I said before, get your true size not a half size larger per New Balance's website.
Overall these are great summer/fall shoe. I am going to have to get something different for the winter, I may get another pair of MO10's or the MT1010's.
The color of this Minimus Running shoe seemed to be a possible for the teenager at our house, as the christmas tree was coming down ..."the island of forgotten gifts"... had to be cleared away. the teenage recipient reluctantly tried these on
!!!BAM!!!POP!! Kudos for comfort. loves the color, loves the style, & the 2E width fit just right.
This was the New Balance that I figured was lost a few years ago; hopefully this ushers in the return of New Balance to the top of my shopping list, but the 3-4 pairs of "not so Stabil" not as high, HIGHTOPS, & tactical shoes returned due to fit, finish, & support deficiencies gives reason to temper my enthusiasm about the entire product line
Having said that, these are a great pair of minimal runners. I've put 50+ miles on these, usually around 3 miles or so at a time. They're comfortable (at the beginning, is seemed that the left shoe fit a little skewy, but I certainly don't notice it now that they're broken in.)
My one knock on these is that they aren't really "everyday" shoes for me, which is something I was hoping to get when I bought them. They're great for workouts, running, even biking, but don't look as great as other shoes when worn with everyday clothes (though they look better with pants than shorts, imo.)
All in all, a great purchase if you're looking for a minimal shoe with a vibram some at a good price :)
However these shoes have a designed hole in the sole between the lugs to drain water that might get in the shoe. For a runner that might be fine but for daily tennies just walking around on a rainy day results in wet socks. My nb mt10 minimus shoes do not have this hole. They should let people know that there is a hole in the sole. I am not a shoe expert and had no way to know that I was spending 100 bucks for shoes with a hole in em.
The laces on the black /green model is a little to bright but easily replaced with black. Looks great without looking too neon, very subtle.
Other than that they are extremely comfortable, and the tongue of the shoe is part of that comfort, it is a one sided tongue. Very durable and lightweight. Love em, I just can't wear em on a rainy day.
When I say fits as expected, I mean that I normally order NB 1/2 size larger than normal however these shoes do not follow that trend so I order the exact size that I am. So they fit as expected, if by that you mean they fit as my size should, not how NB normally fits.
