Note: I pull whatever cheap insert comes with the shoe and put in the appropriate SuperFeet insert ($40-50) for whatever shoe I buy. I learned long ago to spare no expense when it comes to taking care of my feet. Good inserts double or triple the life of your shoes. And my feet thank me for the additional purchase every day. I'm a 50 year old soccer referee happily keeping up with younger studs on the pitch, and I run most of them in to the ground. I thank good shoes and inserts for keeping me pain free.
The 1211s are lighter than the 857s (no leather in the construction, so not as sturdily built.) They are lower profile than the 857s (the heel cup doesn't rise as high up your achilles as the 857s do.) The lacing system is much different (and again probably not as durable as the more standard lacing on the 857s.) And the 1211s look and feel more like running shoes than the 857s, which look and feel more like a court shoe (tennis, squash, etc.)
So why'd I go with the 1211s when everything I've written so far seems to favor the 857s? I was looking for cardio training specific shoes more than I was looking for all-around cross-trainers, and that's the 1211s. (If you think I keep up with young studs on the pitch for free, you've missed the point: I out-train and out-work them.) No regrets so far. Neither choice is a mistake. Choosing to go with something other than New Balance would be a mistake. Best of luck finding what's right for you.
I was starting Les Mills Combat routine, and concerned about lateral stability. I had rolled my ankle while jogging enough times over the years to know that that was to be avoided at all costs, so I knew that an excellent cross trainer was the way to go for this aerobics oriented routine.
I could not be more pleased. It's a limited selection when you are a 4E width. I am lucky that these are as good as they are.

I'm on my second pair. Love these shoes, but my only complaint is that the stuffing in the inside back heel doesn't last very long. Read morePublished 13 months ago by curleigh
