-Runs too large(mainly too long) and yet made the generous toe box from V1 narrower and more stiff. If I go down a 1/2 size, will they be too narrow and small to. Really disappointed in this. (the toe box is a full 1/4 inch narrower than V1, I measured)
-There is a heel box now.
-The lining around the heel on the original was one piece from top of the shoe to the insole. The v2 is only partial and is not even sewn into the shoe. Much less comfortable and poor quality.
-V2 is markedly more stiff than V1, much less responsive, and feel for the road is diminished.
-Less crucial but still important is the V2 colors are atrocious. Just my opinion here.
Over all the shoe went from being an excellent lightweight/minimal running shoe, to just another lightweight shoe. The heel box and overall stiffness of the shoe has taken away the feel and responsiveness of the original. Biggest disappointment is the narrower toe box, this was the major selling point for me in V1. Overall MAJOR letdown.
As for the fit, many people said these fit too narrow. I didn't find this to be the case at all. I bought these in 14EE because I have large wide feet, but these fit me great. When I buy street shoes, I typically buy 14EEEE if available. Love em, Love em, Love em!!
Plus, I'm not really known for my style, but when my teenage daughter saw me running in these (and she's really into sports shoes), she said " Whoa! Cool shoes!" :)
NB clearly took some shortcuts with the materials here, and it shows after very little use. The fabric around the top of the shoe is already splitting/tearing after only 2 months use. This may be due to the slightly narrower fit, which I was ready to forgive because the shoe itself was still quite comfortable. But compared to my original (and dearly loved) 730s that held up after about 400+ miles running/walking, and several trips through the washing machine, this reduction in quality was mostly just heartbreaking. It seems the only thing that holds up on the v2's are the soles, which are very comfortable, and still look great. It's unfortunate I will be throwing away perfectly good soles after only 2 months wear because the shoe attached to them fell apart.
So, why did I get them? Well, the price on the blue/lime green ones was only $40, so it was easy to purchase them. Knowing what I know now about the shoe, I would not have paid $60-$80 for the other colors of the same shoe. For my purposes of going back and forth to the gym, working out in the gym, and recreational biking, I would prefer a more comfortable shoe.
But that's not to say these are bad shoes. I think they are probably good or even great shoes for the target market, mainly runners. They're incredibly light, although I can't compare to other runners shoes because I don't know of any others. They're also very flexible. I don't have any issues with the sizing, the 14s fit like 14s to me, although when I look down at the shoes on my feet, the top of the shoe seems to curve more inward than usual (not a point of discomfort).
Overall, I think it's a good shoe. Although it's nowhere near my perfect shoe, it's another pair in my closet for half the price of a usual pair. So I'll live with it. You should just know what to expect in terms of comfort.
