UPDATE: Wore both these shoes on a recent trip to Finland and Russia. Every day was spent visiting villages, churches, monastaries, Kremlins (yes, there's more than one), many on rough paths and cobblestone streets. Both my brown leather and my grey suede NB MW928s were VERY comfortable, and stylish enough for me to wear to the "captain's dinner" on our river cruise. This was the perfect choice for me, and I'm pleased that while they're "walking" shoes, they're stylish enough to wear almost anywhere. By the way, the "MW" in front of New Balance's style number means "Mens, Walking." The "Walking" part means this shoe has more comforting soles than their running or cross training shoes, whose soles are much more dense, and therefore, harder.
Since custom arches are expensive and have to be cut to fit the shoe, I pretty much had to pick a shoe that I would be wearing all of the time. The problem was that I worked in an office with a dress code where everyone wore dress shoes, but I also didn't want to be stuck wearing dress shoes on my days off. These were a pretty good compromise. When I wear dress pants, I wear them long enough that they cover the strings on these shoes so that they look like dress shoes.
These were also on the list of shoes that the doctors had recommended. A requirement was that they needed to have Stabilizing ROLLBAR technology. They are a little pricey for someone that grew up kind of poor with a mom that got us shoes that were on clearance at Walmart and I wish that they lasted longer for the price too (I have to buy a new pair at least every year, the doctors said more like every 6 months, but I push them to a year). They do the job though and that's really what matters in the end.
Edit: These are the ONLY shoes that I wear because they have my custom aches in them. I bought these shoes on March 24th, 2015 and the pictures that I've added are from today (May 19th, 2016). I don't have a job that would run them down or anything like that, but I don't take very good care of them either if I'm being honest. I've only ever just put them on in the morning and I kick them off when I get home. So, the pictures attached aren't bad for shoes that I've worn pretty much every day for over a year.
