Here's the reason for the 4 stars:
A relative tried on my shoes and wanted a pair, so I bought the "Black/Silver" version of these shoes and was very disappointed when they came in. I ordered a size 8.5 2E like mine and the width looked and felt like a D instead of a 2E. Also when I looked at the tags of the "Black/Silver" version of the shoes, they were made in China and turned out to be a different model called MX797BK2. The "Grey/Lime" shoes were made in the USA and are the model MX797SL. In fact, I noticed before buying the second pair of shoes, that the pictures on Amazon were mildly different in shape and design than the first pair of shoes I ordered, but thought the fit would be the same anyway.
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT:
If you are ordering the [BLACK/SILVER], [BLUE], or [DARK GREY/YELLOW] colored versions of this MX797 shoe, be aware they are MADE IN CHINA and are [MODEL# MX797BK2] according to the pictures posted on Amazon. The fit is TIGHTER (size 8.5 2E feels like 8.5 D), and the treading underneath and overall design is actually different than the other colors. In essence it is a completely different shoe and should not necessarily be grouped together without some sort of description giving the differences. The colors and design look great, but the fit is something to be weary of if you have wide feet. Also it is not made in the USA if that's not your cup of English Breakfast.Read more ›
I am using these shoes exclusively for indoor training and they felt super comfortable right out of the box. They had no hot spots right from the start, but admittedly they feel a little better after a few days of "breaking in". These shoes are very lightweight and the mesh allows for great air circulation to keep my feet cool. The sole is flat with good grip which suits my needs fine, but seem softer than other cross-trainers I've had so only time will tell how durable the bottom is. The construction is excellent, as is the case with all of my New Balance shoes.
I would recommend this to anyone with wide feet looking for a minimalist-style shoe!
I'm not planning on doing a lot of running in these, as I have other shoes I like for running. These are mainly for walking, and feel great. I usually stick to Nike Free, Adidas Climacool type shoes.. and these are a nice addition to that collection. They are just as light, if not lighter, than the Nike Freerun 3's that I have. They have a little more support on the sole, which I like. With the Nikes, I sometimes feel there's a little too much play with the way they designed their sole. These feel solid, light, and are VERY breathable... which is what I look for in an everyday shoe.
If you like the Nike Free or Adidas Climacool style of shoes, you won't be disappointed with these. They have that same minimalist feel, with better support, and much more roomy. If you have wide feet, you'll LOVE these shoes. I'm a size 11 1/2, but always need to go to size 12 for Nike. With these, 11 1/2 fit perfectly.
Another thing I like about these, and New Balance in general, is that they are made in the United States. The construction is top notch, whereas Nike is hit and miss with their quality. My Nikes last maybe 2 years with normal use. I still have a pair of New Balance from 6 years ago that are still holding up. I'm just glad New Balance is starting to make shoes that actually look good ;)
Simply, don't buy, and spend a little more quality as this is junk 'made in china' !

They're comfortable and look pretty good but they are very bulky and look like a total dad shoe when you try to wear them with pants/jeans.Published 2 days ago by DaveM
Wear out very quickly compared to other brands of shoes I've owned. The toe material started splitting after a few months.Published 5 months ago by phillip
Works well as a cross trainer. Not sure how long they will hold up. Had them almost a year. I only wear them 2-3 times a week. But for the price they were great!Published 6 months ago by petra
Had the shoes for a month and then the sole started to come off on the back heel. Put some glue and it was ok but it should be longer than a month before the sole started to come... Read morePublished 12 months ago by Jacob Castro
I use these as gym shoes while doing circuit training. I have relatively wide feet, so they can be a bit tight in a couple of places but wear in properly and quickly. Read morePublished 14 months ago by Gabriel Cox
