I am a super huge New Balance running shoe fan, with the 1220 series being my go to shoe for the last 4 years and a marathon and a half(the latest being the WR1226). However I've also used (and loved) the super light weight 902 especially for speed work, but have been unhappy with the latest WR905 model in that particular series. The WR1080 seems to be an almost magical combination of my two favorites, and I am in love!
The upper of these shoes is incredibly lightweight and seems to mold to my feet with the greatest comfort. The sole of the shoe has a great deal of cushioning, but also seems to have a decent bit of stability as I moderately over-pronate. These shoes have so far held up well, even with semi-high mileage weeks of around 20 miles per week.
These had zero break in time for me, and have fit true to my New Balance size. I am supremely happy with these running shoes and will likely buy several pairs to stock up on before the inevitable new variation comes out. These really are a dream come true for me, and I hope everyone else has the same awesome experience. I really can't think of enough positive adjectives to describe these shoes.

I have a very narrow foot and can never find narrow running shoes. These fit perfectly!! I would highly recommend them!!! Very COMFORTABLE!!!

UPDATE: 1/18/2012 I have been using these running shoes for almost 5 months. I run approx. 3 miles 3-4 times a week. They are still very comfortable and the insoles have not worn out.

Prior to owning these shoes, I got a stress fracture in my right foot twice from running. I always bought good running shoes but never ones with a replaceable insole. My orthopedic doctor recommended a sturdy shoe with a replaceable insole. He stated that removing and examing the insole is the best way to determine if the cushion and support are intact and protecting my foot. I haven't had to replace the insoles yet. These shoes are still comfortable and are the best running shoes I ever owned!!! I haven't had a problem with my right foot since wearing these shoes for running.

These shoes were recommended by my podiatrist, and they work great with my orthotics. They are very lightweight, and great for walking or running. They do fit snug in the medium, so if you don't like snug, I would recommend the wide.

I love new balance because they come in narrow. These are OK, and I kept them and am running in them, but it seems like they have less padding in the sole in the toe area. Also the heels feel higher. The first week I had back trouble, which may or may not have been contributed to by the higher heels. I gradually started using them and now my back seems OK but still not my favorite shoes.

I run a couple of marathons every fall. I'd been buying the 1226 series for 5 years now, starting with 1224, then 1225 and 1226 sometimes buyng two pairs at a time to last for a while. My feet are wide - size 7 wide - and I always put extra cusions (removable athletic insoles that you can buy from any store). Since the 1226 series changed (to 1280, I think), I decided to try something else and bought the 1080 (7 wide as the review said true to size). I did my first run (15 miles) without the extra cusions and did fine. My second run following week was 17 miles long and with extra cusions (insoles) and I ended up getting a huge toe pain (big toes)! Before I ran I noticed that these shoes weren't as deep as the 1226s so I ended up putting the shoe races all the way up to the last holes closest to my ankles. With the big toes in pain I could not run for two weeks (missed two long runs that would've been 18 miles +). I think these shoes fit fine without the extra insoles so I've decided to wear them when I'm on the treadmill during the week and for shorter runs. I think I'm going to order the next size up (size 7.5 wide) to make room for my extra cusions so that I can continue doing my weekend long runs.

UPDATE 09/04/12: I've been wearing these shoes about 3 months now. When I wrote the first review I was thinking of buying a bigger size to prevent my big toes from bruising every time I did long runs but I didn't get around to it (you know how busy you can get during the summer months when the kids are home!), so I ended up doing my long runs with the pair I had (size 7D) without the extra insole inserts. Now I've done five 20 mile weekend long runs wearing my shoes and I have not had any pains or bruises (no foot, toe, leg, ankle or back pains!). I think I'm getting used to running without the extra cusions because these have enough built-in support/cusions! My feet are also prone to getting blisters but with Injinji toe socks I have not had any blisters either!

I wish New Balance would stay with the same model for more than 1 year. Every year they seem to change the model I've gotten used to, then I have to find it as a discontinued style. Sometimes it's very hard to do! But the prices are always good! This model is also discontinued. It is a great shoe, if i can find it in my size and width.

I live at a lake and walk and run six days a week on gravel. These are great shoes. No break in time needed. I am flatfooted and even though these have adequate support I chose to purchase another insert that gave me even greater support. If I were only wearing them for daily use, I'd have been good with the insole that came with the shoe.
