Review

I first became aware of Mary Metcalfe when I read her novel "Winds of Change" and fell in love with her writing style... I jumped at the chance to read "New Beginnings" and I'm happy to say I loved it just as much! Perfect for a beach read or curled up in front of the fireplace on a rainy day. (5 stars). Claire Middleton; Goodreads, Librarything, Shelfari

Another winner from Ms. Metcalfe. Loved it! Can't wait for the next one! (5 stars). Stacy Decker; Goodreads, Librarything, Shelfari

I was already a huge fan of Mary Metcalfe, so I had some admittedly high expectations upon starting "New Beginnings". True, it was different than her other novel, but I think I liked it better!
5 stars and ready for the next one! April Dawn; Goodreads, Librarything, Shelfari

"New Beginnings" is the first book I've read by Mary Metcalfe, but I'm sure it won't be the last! (I've already  put "Winds of Change"  and "Road to Tomorrow" on my TBR list).
I'll be reading her other books soon. (4 stars).Jenna Brewster; Goodreads, Librarything, Shelfari

From the Author

I think we've all known someone who is driven in their career, sometimes at the expense of spending quality time with their families. Among the most driven, I've found, are real estate agents. They work nights and weekends - the very times their family members might be available for time together. When I wrote Carol Brock into my debut novel I didn't like her... but then I she told me her back story and that is how New Beginnings came about. Sure she has money, gobs of it. But her marriage came undone and her kids haven't been close to her in years. The central question for me was whether she realized the kind of life she'd built around her and whether she was ready to change. I'll leave it to you to find out for yourself. Happy reading!

I gave the first one in this series only four stars but this one gets five. The character development has improved and although I still think the characters are just a little bit too good to be true, it's satisfying to have everyone behave the way we would like them to - or at least the main characters. Only one small irritation - the author really needs a visit from the grammar police.
The main character, a tough and savvy Real Estate Agent, has a habit of jumping into relationships too soon and winding up with jerks. This time she tries to slow down when she meets a wonderful, sexy man but this one really does seem to be "the real deal" and it's fun to go along on this journey of discovery with her. The characters from the first book are back, charming and smart as ever. These are people you'd love to have for your very best friends.
You're not going to have to think very hard to know where all this is leading and what the ultimate outcome will be but it's a good read for getting away from real life for awhile with a cup of tea and a plate of cookies.

Carol Brock is a forty-three year old successful real estate agent who has sworn off men after a series of bad relationships. Carol is determined to take back control of her life and career, that is until she meets Devin Elliott, Boston's most eligible bachelor and restoration specialist. Devin puts in an offer for a Victorian house that Carol has listed, there is mutual attraction and a chance at a new beginning for both of them. But there is just one little problem ... Devin's psychopathic ex-girlfriend Allison, who is hellbent on stopping Devin from buying her mother's house and his growing relationship with Carol. Can Carol and Devin overcome the complications and obstacles that arise from their budding relationship and get a chance at a new beginning?

In New Beginnings, the second book of the Look To The Future series, author Mary Metcalfe weaves an intriguing tale of romance and suspense that will captivate the reader's attention. The reader is transported to picturesque New England as they follow Carol Brock and Devin Elliott's budding professional and personal relationship that is wrought with past emotional baggage, complications, and one seriously psycho ex-girlfriend.

This fast-paced story has a good mixture of romance, drama, tension, intrigue and suspense that easily draws the reader in and keeps them turning the pages. The characters are realistic and well developed with witty dialogue and engaging interactions; the author provides a richly detailed description of the setting; and a fascinating storyline that flows seamlessly as it builds momentum with unpredictable developments and suspenseful twists and turns until the dramatic conclusion.

Well, this story starts out with a bang! Carol is just wanting to get to work, but....well life steps in and say "NOPE" She meets Devin because he pretty much slams into her life, and things aren't the same after that.

Carol has had quite the dating history, and she's really not ready for anything. However, she finds Devin attractive and can't help but get swept up into his world- crazy exes and all!

New Beginnings is a good story. The characters make you feel their emotions, the plot is pretty solid. Now, the pacing is bogged down at times due to overly detailed paragraphs that don't necessarily bring anything extra to the story, but it wasn't big enough to keep me from being intrigued by the story and wanting to know how it ends.

This is the first I've read from the author and I would be interested in find more of her books. New Beginnings is a great mix of drama, romance, intrigue and good emotion.

This is my favorite of the three read this weekend... Of course, you all know I go for suspense with my romance and this one has a female that I really enjoyed hating! What more could I want, besides a pair of lovers to watch come together! Carol Brock, best friend of Jennifer in Winds of Change comes to the "star" role in New Beginnings. She's had some bad experiences with men in the past and twice got burnt on the job because issues which really were not her fault. But, as we know, often that doesn't make any difference if there are others who resent you for some reason...

And Carol was somebody you either looked to as a role model...or hated, because she was so good at selling. Her activities with real estate in Boston had made her a very wealthy woman... During the last year, though, she had finally realized that she was not really happy. Her children, in college, were distant, not having had much time with her, due to Carol's hours on the job, even at nights and weekends when most people looking to buy were available and wanting to view the properties...

Right now, she's responsible for the sale of a beautiful Victorian home, whose owner is now in a rest home and who dies during the novel, making it even more of a...shall we say, challenge!

At the same time, Carol, who has stayed away from men since the last few have caused much havoc in her life, meets a new one, who convinces her she's made the right decision! Because when she met him, in a parking lot, he had parked too close to her vehicle, and knocked off her side mirror! Carol couldn't even get into her car, so she promptly took a camera, sent it to the police and called a tow truck!
