Bought this sometime ago but just getting around to reviewing it. I thought I had done it already.

Even without the Blockheads, Ian Dury is in a class by himself. I guess you would classify him as part of the "punk" scene - but he is much more than that. Never a great singer, I think it is his interpretation of the songs that does it for me. Too bad he has passed, I would really like to see what he would be doing now.

This CD has that "wink, wink" sound and lyrics, as if we were in on the joke.

Anyway - do get this CD and all his releases before they are taken out of print. You will not regret it. Get it, even if you have to forgo buying your new boots and panties. ; )

New Boots and Panties. What a great album. A classic. One of those records where every song is great. Amazing how things can come together so well at a particular point in time, when an artist can put magic down on vinyl. Dury never again was able to pull off a record as complete as this, but one great record is enough when its this good. The demos are very good and well worth a listen.

This is a very nice reissue package with demos and b-sides. Dury's sometimes bawdy but always poetic lyrics combined with superb playing by the Blockheads transcend both time and space. Ian Dury was one of kind and this set, arguably his best with the Do It Yourself LP a close second, shows exactly why. I had the vinyl at one point, but lost it somewhere in the last 30 years. This disc's arrival in the mail was like a visit from an old friend who has not changed a bit. The proper title, by the way Amazon, is New Boots and Panties!! This CD more than deserves two exclamation marks!!

the album is different than the vinyl release I got here in Canada. On this, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll is a bonus song. So it is included. The bonus cd is actually full of good material including the instrumental as it allows you to get into the groove of some songs. The alternative versions are very different lyrically.
