The versatility and size of this counter-top appliance reduces our need to use the much larger, power-hungry oven in our electric range. When we lose utility power our standby generator has enough power to easily run this oven but really strains to power the one in our electric range. This appliance has a remarkable five-year satisfaction guarantee from the manufacturer. The gleaming stainless front control knobs have a solid feel and are easy to set and this appliance has an overall solid feel to it. We cover the slide-out tray in the bottom of our Oster toaster oven with aluminum foil, which makes it easy to clean. I purchased this at a local store for $39.92 which is considerably less than Amazon's price and, of course, without shipping charges.
I also baked some chicken breasts. These came out spectacularly well on "turbo bake" (the convection bake setting) at 350 degrees. 20 minutes and they were done, slightly browned, moist inside. Perfect.
Oven does not come with a broiling pan. Luckily I've saved the broiling pans that came with previous, now-dead, toaster ovens. Instead, this one expects you to slide a provided drip pan underneath the rack--voila, broiling pan. Except that cleaning that rack will be devilishly difficult. I'm not going to use it in that way. Plus the rack is really flimsy...my heavy Pyrex bakeware causes it to visibly bend in the middle. Be careful out there!
Those of you who are chemically-sensitive might want to put the oven outdoors (on a non-rainy day, obviously) plug it into an outdoor outlet, and heat it up for a good 20 minutes. It produces some nasty sickening odors when new. After 20 minutes, it was fine. Oven is plain stainless steel on the inside, so no worries about off-gassing non-stick coatings.
Due to the oversized handle on the oven door, the oven door does not fold down completely flat, so be careful trying to remove stuff from the oven. I did manage to burn myself on it the first time, even though I could clearly see that this might be a problem. But I'm a klutz.
First, while the construction is great there is a design quirk that I dislike and you should know about. The timer (the bottom knob) requires that you first set it to 20, then adjust it to the time you want. I cannot fathom why this is so, and the first few times I used it I failed to do the initial setting. That resulted in the over remaining on overnight. I first thought it was a flaw until I actually read the instructions.
This replaced an older toaster over than I owned for twenty years, and the ease of accessing the inside of this one for cleaning is a major plus for me. Also, this is made from heavy-duty parts instead of flimsy stamped metal of which other replacements I considered were constructed, Plus this was in the same price range at the big box store where I purchased it as the cheaper ones.
Performance is another factor that I love. When you set using some of the pre-sets the results are repeatable. What I mean is if I set it to bake at 450 for 9 minutes for focaccia I will get identical results every single time. No variation, so the modes, temperatures and timer are precise.
Overall, this has replaced my regular oven for jobs that the toaster over I previously owned could not handle. The capacity if perfect for someone living alone, and it's miserly when it comes to electricity (compared to a regular oven.) I am guessing that it's paid for itself in electricity bill reduction in the six months that I've owned it.
