Review

"Ideal for those who want to test the longevity of a business plan."  The Entrepreneur, June 2010

"...offers a smart way to quickly assess what might and might not work. The distinction between markets and industries (the former is a collection of buyers, the latter of sellers) is typical of the quality of approach here".  Director Magazine, July/August 2010

From the Back Cover

‘A great read for entrepreneurs. If every participant on Dragons’ Den read this book, there would be far more handshakes at the end of each episode.’

James Caan, Dragon on Dragons’ Den and author of The Real Deal: My Story from Brick Lane to Dragons’ Den

‘A reality check for anyone poised to jump into a new venture without thinking.’

David Giampaolo, Chief Executive of Pi Capital, London

‘Mullins has hit the nail on the head. I wish this book had been given to every entrepreneur who appeared before me on Dragons’ Den.’

Doug Richard, Former Dragon and founder of School for Startups

I used this book to road test a business idea I've had in mind for a long time. The book will give you a good notion of the strength and weaknesses of your opportunity and if used pro actively, it will help you clear the most important `unknowns' that you need to know about before spending time and money in a business venture. I would recommend this book to everyone (thinking of) starting a business. It provides a great framework to road test any (crazy) business idea at a very affordable loss.

Very interesting and helpful book to make sure all main aspects of new business opportunity are covered. Before jumping into business creation I believe this book definitely provides a very good reality check, for example, if the business idea you plan to pursue is really for you, matches your aims and whether you have thought of all main aspects such as future market and industry prospects, etc. The book is very easy and pleasant to read and provides many inspiring and practical examples. Therefore a definite must have to anyone who thinks of pursuing her/his business opportunity.

This is a great book in entrepreneurship. It's a must read.

The only thing I would complain about is that, for the one that I received, there are some pages misplaced and it took me awhile that those pages dont belong to where they are. But that's not the author's fault. The content is so great that i still rate this 5 stars.

This was the second assigned test for a course in small business development and planning.
It seemed to be more for intrapreneuers, entrepeneurs working within large businesses
than small business owners. I do not think many will consider this an enjoyable road test.

The author gives countless examples of practices that both failed and succeeded in
large corporate setting. Yet, how does one use the same practices in sole proprietorships
or small partnerships? There are some good books on developing small business plans.
Entrepreneurs might better start with a few basic chapters in Introduction to Business
course books. This book might be valuable for some, especially intrapreneurs and
executives at larger firms. It is slow reading. I bought this from Amazon. Many
other book stores do not have it

This book is about opportunity assessment. The reader is given a framework and tools to evaluate business opportunities and ideas in terms of a Macro and Micro level including a framework for determining economic viability. Basics of team assessment and what investors look for is also covered.

The layout of the book is fantastic. Each chapter provides the reader of a framework of what the chapter will cover as well as examples. Case studies and examples are well defined. Each chapter concludes with a summary of the pertinent principles covered. References are at the back of the book (listed under the various chapters it references to) and the soft-cover version has a front and back flap; very convenient to bookmark where you stopped reading as well as the corresponding reference at the back.

An excellent***** resource all round and a must-read for any would be entrepreneur. Read this book before embarking on any plans!

If you're looking for a book to help you develop not only a business plan but an entire business strategy for your start-up you've found the right one. Mullins will help you figure out if you're heading down the right patch and how to fix it if you're not. You'll get tips on how to conduct surveys, what information to gather, what investors such as VCs and Angel investors are looking for, and how to write a business plan. Probably the most useful info you'll get from the book is a realistic picture of what kind of info and thinking it takes to get your business off the ground. Once you have that it'll be up to you if you still have what it takes to get your business funded or off the ground...Mullins can only be your guide.
