Born in 1979 in Tehran, Iran, Amir Askari has attended the University of Mysore in India, where he has earned his master's and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology. He is a supervisor/trainer and advanced degree certified schema therapist by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). Amir Askari is also the founder and director of the Iranian Institute of Schema Therapy (IIST) since 2019. He is also the head of the Developmental Project of Schema Therapy (DPST) in Iran and the Middle East, which is part of the projects overseen by the Center for Advanced Studies in Mental Health (CASMH). He is currently a board member of the Iranian Clinical Psychology Association (ICPA). His studies initially began in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Gestalt Therapy, and eventually, he got to Schema Therapy. Amir Askari has published numerous articles in international journals and has made many speeches in different countries. Besides doing psychotherapy with disordered personality patients and also counseling and conflict resolving with the couples, he attends to teaching, doing research, writing, translating, and editing.

Si hay algo que distingue a la Terapia de Esquemas de otras es que los que la practicamos “vivimos enamorados de ella” y cuanto más la conocemos, más encandilados estamos y, este libro de Amir Askari, miembro de ISST, afianzará ese vínculo casi romántico o "apasionado" como lo llaman otros colegas que siguen este modelo.
Todos sabemos que los estilos de afrontamiento son tres: evitación, rendición y sobrecompensación y, durante la treintena de años de la terapia de esquemas estas tres formas se mantuvieron inalterables, oleadas y sacramentadas, sin embargo, llega este libro y remueve las estructuras de los estilos de afrontamiento con una propuesta de tres estilos adicionales y, confieso, que no estaba preparada para aceptarlo y quizá le pase lo mismo a otros colegas, pero al empezar la lectura, especialmente el segundo capítulo, me quedé sorprendida y caí rendida ante las evidencias respaldadas por investigaciones científicas y, por supuesto, de los casos clínicos que el iraní Amir Askari no duda en ofrecerlas.
Este libro “agudizará” nuestra percepción en el trabajo de modos y para nadie es un secreto que los estilos perpetúan y fortalecen los esquemas desadaptativos tempranos y, uno de los puntos clave de nuestro modelo es debilitar las estructuras que dieron origen al esquema y esto solo se puede lograr desde la autopercepción del “modo de afrontamiento” que el paciente reconoce indubitablemente acompañado de su terapeuta y, he aquí la trascendencia de este gran material que nos permitirá “afinar” nuestra capacidad de visualizar los estilos de afrontamiento de manera precisa para aplicar los recursos terapéuticos que desarrollamos sesión tras sesión.
Estos tres nuevos estilos de afrontamiento, que seguramente pronto lo leerás, te va a permitir encontrar muchas respuestas a aquellas situaciones en donde no teníamos claro un modo de afrontamiento que oscilaba entre uno u otro y que al final, por extensión, lo clasificábamos en uno de los estilos, pero no quedaba clara esa respuesta modal ante la activación del esquema.
Para terminar, recomiendo este libro al 100% y como decimos en nuestra lengua “No tienen pierde”, la información que trae está llena de ejemplos, casos y citas de personajes del Medio Oriente que enriquecen este gran material.
