Assassin Hawes Madigan wants to do right by everyone who’s counting on him.
His family, his organization, his city, and most of all, the man he's falling for… an ATF agent.
Should he fight from the outside or bend the knee to win back his throne from within?
If he wants to save both his soul and his empire, Hawes must make an impossible decision.
Legends fall.
Christopher Perri is used to being the inside man, the one undercover.
His mission shifted when he found something that's been missing for ten long years—a home.
Now he's on the outside, marshaling forces in support of the man and the ring of assassins he was supposed to take down… and praying for a miracle.
And legacies were made to be rewritten.
As Hawes and Chris make a dangerous play for control, the lines between allies and traitors blur.
Someone is willing to kill to protect the old ways.
Trusting the wrong person could destroy the Madigan legacy.
But not trusting anyone, or each other, could mean lights out on their love and lives forever.
The King and King Slayer fight together in this thrilling conclusion to the Fog City Trilogy!

Hawes and Chris have come a long way since they first met in Prince of Killers. Their relationship took another turn in King Slayer and now all their cards are on the table. At least most of them.
On the surface, it seems crazy to sympathize with an assassin, but given Hawes' situation, it was impossible not to. He was betrayed by someone he should have been able to trust. Someone who should have wanted to protect him, instead of destroy him. My heart broke for him in more than one situation, but he did have a few people he could trust with no question.
Chris had his own baggage that he needed to sort through and his situation was no less heartbreaking than Hawes'. These were two people who found each other at just the right time. Even if they were totally clueless in the beginning.
A New Empire was the perfect ending to the Fog City series. And... even though it's the end, I hope that we get to see some of these characters again. This would probably be a good time to mention that this is not where you should start because A New Empire is definitely NOT a standalone. These characters (all of them) go through a lot to get to this point. So yeah, start with Prince of Killers. Since that one ends in a jaw-dropping cliff hanger, you're lucky that you can then immediately pick up King Slayer. You're welcome!
These two characters' chemistry is amazing and the amount of twists and turns in this one was insane.
It leads into the final books, wrapping up Hawes' siblings stories though, so on to those! I'm addicted!
The plot tension was on point and I never wanted to stop reading. Love love love the Madigans so much. Chris and Hawes are the most adorable couple ever and I adore them. Can't wait to see what's in store for Helena and Holt!
- there's a satisfying ending to our MCs stories in this book
- the pacing of this book is just as fast (if not faster) than the earlier books in the series
- there are some awesome cameos that left me squealing with joy
- my two favorite characters in this series seem set up to get their own spin-off (please, Layla, I'm begging here, from down on my knees)
Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. As always, Reyne's dialogue sparks on page, and the heat between Hawes and Dante is incredible. I'm sad this series is over, but can't wait to see what's coming next!

“You’re enough for me.”
Wheeeew. The adrenaline. The every time I thought I was on solid ground and then another twist and not sure whether to trust it or not.
I'm so glad we got both POV's. I needed that. Also, think it really helped I read one after the other. I was hooked and could not stop reading, couldn't read fast enough!
Just an observation but I was halfway through this book before realising the Madigan siblings were not the only ones with names that begin with the same letter. Lol.
I am dyinnng for Holt & Kane's book. So much.
Also, I can't believe how much Wheeler snuck up on me. I am absolutely that person that falls in love with secondary characters as soon as we meet them lol but I wasn't expecting to with him but I will protect him at all costs. Need his book. Love him already.
If I stopped to think about it I'd probably wish for more Dante & Hawes. Just them. But I also appreciate how that couldn't really work because of the arc of this story and it would have seemed forced. I enjoyed this trilogy immensely and I enjoyed getting lost in books like that. So good for the soul.
Onto Celia & Helena's book next

I was sold by two minutes into reading this book when a certain kick-ass, take no prisoners person arrived on page, followed shortly by another quick guest appearance from another of my fave Layla characters.
This book was going to be all ends up awesome and it delivered in spades. From the first moments when Hawes is dealing with what went down at the end of book two, through to the four months later epilogue at the end, this is all I wanted it to be.
Hawes and Chris are better than ever, finally realising they’ve met the one other person they can truly rely on.
There’s schemings, a jailbreak that wouldn’t be out of place on screen in a big Ocean’s Eleven style heist movie, there’s all the usual suspects turning up - with one bringing a secret I would never have guessed in a million years.
And, at the heart of it, are the three Madigans. Hawes, Holt and Helena, proving that family comes first in everything.
I absolutely LOVED this book and I love how it really felt like three episodes in a long-running action-adventure with cliffhangers and to be continued plot lines dropping all over.
Now bring on the spin-offs and let’s get Holt and Kane sorted out please Layla (and I’d love to see Helena and Celia explore that interesting family dynamic too!)
(Over-excited gushing and total fangirling over a certain kick-ass character is all my own work.)

A New Empire gives us a wild ride to the conclusion of Chris & Hawes' story arc. There's a ton of suspense & intrigue, especially where our main characters are faced with questions about who they can trust. What really comes through, though is the strengthening bonds of their relationship & the themes of trust & loyalty.
This book is almost a 5-star read for me, but I would have liked a bit more balance between strategising & action. That said, I felt A New Empire was a more than fitting end to the Fog City trilogy & I was delighted to read we may see some spin-offs in the future. I'm keeping everything crossed that Holt & Kane will be first up...

Still a little puzzled by the interest shown in Kane's tattooed arm...but maybe that's something to sort out in the spin-offs that will no doubt appear.
