I have a small collection of antique cookbooks - and I must say that this is the one that gets the most use. The recipes are straightforward; many of them can be made with ingredients that one typically has on-hand.

There are marvelous recipe for pie crust and old-fashioned shortcake that always win compliments. :)

This is a fascinating old cookbook! A treasure to have on my shelf! I have made dishes from the recipes & YUM! These are old Yankee recipes based on what was available on the East Coast. It has more than recipes it even has little bits of info from the time. This is a truly OLD book! It's just great! I'm thrilled that I have it! If you are intrested in older books or cookbooks or simply want to cook a more "simple" dish, you will just love this book!

No matter how cooking and cookbooks change over the years/centuries, some recipes just never lose their solid good taste. The New England Yankee Cookbook is filled with just such recipes: good, solid food with great taste. What more could one need?! Easy to follow, easy to eat. Perfect.

Fun book to read, lots of information about cooking years ago. I ordered this on for someone I work with who looked at my copy and wanted one for herself. I have made some of the recipes in this book. One of my favorites is the Cider Cake.

This is a book to read for a bit of New England history as well as for the use of its recipes that are still valuable 77 years after first being published.
I grew up with this book as it was my mother's favorite source for tried and true good Yankee recipes. I still buy it to give as a gift to those who really like to cook and who do not consider real cooking to be mixing a few ingredients with a packaged mix.

Ancient New England Recipes. The first recipe in this book is the type that was served in the 1830's in the book 'Moby Dick.'
The book is filled with long forgotten and simple recipes, many from the 1700's.

This is such a fun cookbook. It was publish in 1939. I love the historical elements and food variations. I have made a couple of the gingerbread recipes, Maine Gingerbread and Gingerbread Slab, and they have been delicious. A fun book to share with my family.
