Rural Mars is a strange place, like cowboy country with minor tech advancements. But travel to the city of Kai, and you do get the full sci-fi world-building.
At first, I had some trouble with the unorthodox use of pov. Not omniscient, but not traditional strict 3rd person either, it took some getting used to. The history of Mars is chronicled by a God-like narrator but the scenes are written mostly in 3rd person, except for temporary shifts from one character’s perspective to another’s. Think of it like the camera doing a 180 in a film. But once I got used to the effect, the rest was pure fun.
Easy reading, clear writing, I give this a five-star because the action sequences are phenomenal. Think of it as an action flick without the bad CGI because in the imagination the CGI is always top budget.
On an unrelated note, I saw the author had a book set in Mongolia (Primal force series), and being Mongolian myself, I’m eager to check it out next.
Great read overall, a recommend from a fantasy and sci-fi lover.
book combines all three in a really amazing and fresh take on Mars! Very rarely do I read a new sci-fi book that makes me go WOW! A must read
